I had to. Too many people worship them, and it's a bit unwarranted.
I don't actually hate them I just think they're over rated.

P.S. The Clash would be in this category if  didn't like their lyrics so much.

nope, really don't know it.

now comes a question that might make me very unpopular but i'm gonna ask it anyway. it doesn't really sound like punk the way i know it? should be faster and louder and less making me nauseous. may i assume that you fix this when you perform this song as a punk band?

btw now listening to misfits - we are 183, that is more like i remember from the little concerts what my friends at highschool dragged me to :) heh)

that pixies song is also great fun.

horrible sound quality, though :)

Well, this is old skool stuff...so the sound is cleaner and softer.

The Clash, the Pixies...all that stuff just rawks the socks.

hunter s.durden

I am blow away.
Many of those songs I understand because you have to go looking for them. Misfits, Pixies, Stooges, None of them get radio play.
But Surrender was (is) way popular.
Perhaps you're too young?

i'm 26. is that too young?

i think it probably has something to do with a america-europe gap.

not that they're comparable in "bigness", but you probably don't know "wij zijn Sjonnie en Anita" by "De Heideroosjes" either ;-) [which is dutch punk that everybody knows .. over here ;-) ]

We do out here!  Claissic Rock and Punk ftw!

hunter s.durden

Funny you say that. CheapTrick actually got big in Japan first, then America.

Probably the case, though. Europens are stuck up and only listen to their own music. Everyone here know "wij zijn Sjonnie en Anita" by "De Heideroojes".

Duh.

Radio stations in my town are embarrassing.

ok first one i recognize, kind of. not on lmno's list, but it was in the directory he linked from his site. "sweet - the ballroom blitz" -- first few seconds of drumming is sampled by Apollo440's "Krupa" (not the radio-edit but the vinyl @440 Original)

First, we treat the Cure song as if Me First and the Gimme Gimmies were playing it - Fast, loud & stoopid.

Second, some of these songs are, like, 30 years old.  We give it the modern touch.

Third, we were thinking of doing a medly of "Radar Love" and "Ballroom Blitz".

Fourth, Ballroom Blitz was also sampled by the Beastie Boys in "Hey Ladies" - "She thinks she's the passionate one!"

Fifth, We're gonna do "Not In Love" like a Sonic Youth song.

Jenne

Having seen my brothers' rock bad cover "Walk Like an Egyptian," I can readily understand what you are saying.

It IS possible to reify the rock for a rock/punk song.  Harder riffs, stronger, faster beats, etc.

LMNO

It's all in the attitude, anyway.

Johnny Cash = Punk as fuck.
