For my part, I've replaced optimism and believing the best of people by default with a grin and the absolute 100% certainty that if they cannot find a pig to fuck, they will buy some bacon and play oinking noises on YouTube.

So I've been away for almost a month

I blame work, mostly, but also I have also been busy making this website: http://www.charlotteoktoberfest.com/ .  If you like beer and can be in Charlotte NC on October 8, then I highly encourage you to come to this festival.  I have attended the past two years and it was great.

I also read Atlas Shrugged since I was last here, so now I'm like a total Randtard -- I now know, through the magic of the Dunning-Kruger effect, that I am a pre-rich uberproductive superman, but the looters and parasites are robbing me and my kind at gunpoint and that's why we're not living in some kind of utopia or something and Obama is a socialist.

But then again, I also read Fight Club and became an ordained Subgenius minister during the same time, so some things probably got canceled out in there somewhere.

I had a busy month.

PMZ,
Would totally have wanted to watch the movie if they had gotten Antonio Banderas to play that Francisco guy, because that's who I was picturing when I read the "action" scenes.
I will answer ANY prayer for $39.95.*

You're a randroid now?  Say it ain't so.

I oughtta rob you at gunpoint.

Precious Moments Zalgo

No, not really, I was just making fun of teatards who read it and then adopt it as their world view, envisioning themselves as would-be captains of industry if only the looter government would get out of their way.

I thought the book was absurd.

Heh.  Gotcha.  These days it's hard to tell where normal idiocy begins and satire ends.

Freeky

This is not our century, Sig. :( (I too had trouble with that. )

I didn't.  PMZ had that edge in his post that says "I'M LAUGHING SO HARD I CAN'T STOP SCREAMING!".
" It's just that Depeche Mode were a bunch of optimistic loveburgers."

"Billy, when I say that ethics is our number one priority and safety is also our number one priority, you should take that to mean exactly what I said. Also quality. That's our number one priority as well. Don't look at me that way, you're in the corporate world now and this is how it works."

I still have to read Fight Club.  Apparently the movie was better than most book movies, but still...

Here you go: http://www.epubbud.com/book.php?g=CDLR3YCV

It was certainly a much more enjoyable read than Atlas Shrugged.

Knowing about the Dunning-Kruger-effect tends to do that to people :D

I like to call it the Dunning-Kruger-effect-effect.

So anyway, this foreclosure house I bought still has a lot of needed work.  It sat vacant for two years, but the previous owners did fuckall, maintenancewise.  They got in financial trouble, but managed to find some sucker to buy the house from them at the peak of the market and then rent it back to them.  Said sucker was planning on flipping the house, but the market immediately tanked.  Then, when they couldn't afford the rent anymore, they left in the middle of the night with whatever they could carry.  We filled up two 40' dumpsters full of their crap when we moved in.  We had to replace all the carpets because they were covered in pet stains.  The whole house was nasty.  These were not clean people.

Some of the crap we threw out included an assload of Elizabeth Dole presidential campaign materials from 2000.  There was also a "College Republican Chapter Kit" which included:

  • One (1) College Republican Chapter Manual
  • One (1) booklet entitled "Terrorist Attack Survival Guide"
  • One (1) copy of The Law, by Frederic Bastiat
  • One (1) copy of The Founders Almanac, by The Heritage Foundation (I haven't read it but I'm guessing this 300+ page book is full of mined quotes showing how the American founding fathers were all proto-Republicans.)
  • One (1) of those big three-ring-binder style checkbooks, in the name of the UNCC College Republicans, some checks missing.

There was also a briefcase full of worthless stock certificates in a failed company.  From what I understand, this company's mission was to provide a market-based solution to the problem of poor people not being able to afford health care.  I'm not sure I understand how such a company would get paid, and apparently this guy wasn't able to figure that part out either.  There's such a great need, so the market is huge, and noone else is doing it, so I'll have a monopoly over this huge market, and ????? PROFIT!

PMZ,
is about to go cut down some more of the poison ivy that is killing his trees.

Hmmm.

Let me know how it goes.  I've always wondered what it's like to buy real estate from a turkey vulture.
