A version of Crash for the A man dressed like a bat universe: a group of people develop a sexual fetish surrounding accidental falls into vats of mutation-inducing toxic waste.
That's cool.  I was thinking, when the Joker gets his perma-grin from the acid wash, is there any way DC was using "mutation inducing" industrial waste as a veil for some lysergic counterpart?  I figure this question probably betrays my ignorance, and I'm fine with that.

The Joker's original appearance is a bit too early for that, though I'm not sure about the red hood arc (i.e., his origin story). It's hard to tell how much of the really strange stuff in comics had its origin in legitimate psychedelia, since the comics code disallowed that sort of stuff. That said, the outfits that continued through the comics code era as comics were generally fairly conservative & straight-laced -- whereas the real freaks at EC shut down and started MAD.

Thank you for that insight - it may take some to percolate - meanwhile, made me remember:

At piano bar in parallel universe MAD editor at large tapped by largest trans-national drug cartel to canonize their narrative on the current state of world affairs.  War on drugs turns out to be (according to them) one of the only remaining active fronts of political conflict.  World leaders otherwise outed as being mostly in agreement about issues that they dramatize to the public.  The more divisively they render the circumstances, the more important their jobs of reconciliation become.  Moral of the story is to have public be less dependent upon understanding the world in terms of black and white, so their leaders could act accordingly.

A brilliant team of computer scientists is conflicted when their development of an AI that can think and solve unexpected problems in varied fields as well as a human can is eclipsed in the media by their development of an AI with the ability to feel love, which was easier for them, was accomplished earlier, and has no practical applications.

EDIT:
Another idea:
Parody of Raiders of the Lost Ark wherein the Ark gibes the Nazis hemorrhoids as per the Book of Samuel

EDIT:
Another idea:
THe end of the world is imminent and rioting abounds as there will be no more long-term consequences. The story or film follows a series of people, changing focus to the next person as each one gets killed. THe new protagonist is usually someone who was nearby or had something to do with it (with the previous protagonist's death that is).

It is an unfortunate fact that every man who seeks to disseminate knowledge must contend not only against ignorance itself, but against false instruction as well. No sooner do we deem ourselves free from a particularly gross superstition, than we are confronted by some enemy to learning who would plunge us back into the darkness -H.P.Lovecraft

A retelling of the story of King Arthur's origin similar to disney's "The Sword In The Stone" but in which Merlin is merely a brilliant and manipulative fraud with a gift for chemistry and mechanisms and some big plans. The sword in the stone for example is a mechanical contrivance whose hidden inner workings lock the sword in place until such time as he sneaks in and releases it for his chosen puppet.

*A comedy including a character who acts like an over the top blackface character except for the fact that the character is white

*A western where the sheriff isn't the good guy. This coincides with the next suggestion:

*Robin Hood with the setting moved to the american west

EDIT:
Another idea:

*A poem in he vein of "The House That Jack Built" but about the plague ("...that carried the rats that carried the fleas that carried the plague that devestated europe")

EDIT:
Another idea:
*Historical fiction about the Ripper murders where the perp is a prostitute with an axe to grind against her fellow prostitutes

Amazingly, I have one.

A time-travel adventure series, a la Quantum Leap, but a team. They have to go back in time and "fix" events to make them align with the current universe, which has been determined to difinitively be in the class of best of all possible universes.

The twist: Every event they have to "fix" are tragedies and horrors. They have to blow up the Hindenberg. They have to kill Lincoln. They have to save Hitler's life. They have to initiate the abuse at the Iraqi prisons.

Eventually, one of the team starts to wonder about the morality of sacrificing the past for the benefit of the future, and begins to sabotage missions. Another narrative thread begins when the viewers start to see what the botched missions change.

This would be amazing.

This aligns with something I was going to suggest:

A man goes back in time and kills Hitler, As a result command is taken over by one of his more competant underlings. As a result the german side hangs on long enouh to complete their nuclear weapons program and the earh is devestated by 2 way nuclear war

I like it.  Made me think Of a splinter version, shifting the historical interventions to the present:  viable proponents are chosen to be subjected to a sequence of traumatic events, ritual style.  They replicate the same pattern of events to elicit, unlock and invoke the spirit of Axis leaders.  Once re-wired and triggered, these political marionettes are played against each-other like in a staged version of a very long-running theatrical piece, eternally recurring until the perfect version is rendered, halting the passage of time.

Sort of a combination of Blair Witch Project and Event Horizon. A crew is making a documentary about the legendary ghost ship The Flying Dutchman (whose captain according to legend sold his soul to the devil for the ability to sail the world with unnatural speed). To their surprise they actually find it, in the sea off the Cape of Good Hope. Their own ship is wrecked in the perpetual storm that surrounds the ghost ship but they manage to climb abord the Dutchman. There they are accosted by poltergeist activity which increases in intensity until the climax where the ship sails itself into hell. The film ends with their tapes being found washed up on shore the next day in Hawaii (which is approximately antipodal to the Cape of Good Hope), during the midst of a terrible storm.

Rococo Modem Basilisk

An outsider politician whose meteoric rise surprised pundits self-immolates after losing a close race. Despite fire damage, autopsy shows unambiguously that the corpse, while human-like, wasn't fully human: some organs more closely resemble those of fish, and others of insects, and massive deformities in the digestive system indicate that the candidate was under such great and constant pain that he would be unlikely to be capable of any kind of complex thought. The doctor performing the autopsy suggests that perhaps his shame at his non-human heritage was the source of his intense drive and nativist rhetoric.

Here's another variation. It is determined that religion played a large role in civilization surviving long enough to make it past ancient times. Therefore, the time travelers must go back and stage all the miracles and/or be all the prophets. Of several religions.

Two short ideas:

*Horror spoof where it eventually turns out that the source of the villain's apparent indestructability is that he has gained eternal life by accepting Jesus as his personal lord and savior

*One of the people involved in a secret government project that studies and covers up ufos and alien artifacts is, unbeknownst to the other members of the project, a disguised stranded alien hoping that the humans will eventually reverse engineer something that can get him home (as he is no more personally capable of it than one of us would be to build a car from scratch)

Rococo Modem Basilisk

An eccentric hedge fund manager dies of a heart attack & wills his high speed trading machine to itself, allowing it to pay for its own electricity and rental space out of its profits. Nobody much cared because it wasn't making a lot of money -- it was an older algorithm that had been abandoned by newer machines, and so it was making just enough to pay for its continued operation. However, five years later, a flash crash occurred that affected all of the other high speed trading machines -- leading to 98% of the world's money being owned by this self-owning machine. Several governments conspire to destroy the machine, but must contend with the deadly force of the trading center's private security team, tasked to protect the machine so that they can continue extracting rent from the only remaining rental machine.

A fictionalized biopic of Adolph Hitler wherein he has been conflated with the villain from the classic Star Trek episode The Changeling. In the end his suicide is depicted as being the result of the realization that his ideology doesn't make any sense and therefore he must be insane, leading to the Lawful Stupid conclusion that he must therefore destroy himself.
