I really dont like the "winners-losers" dialectic because its so tied to corporate speak, ruthless capitalism and self-help literature.

Life is tough.  Wear a hat.

You are reading me wrong.

My point is that there's a "speak" that revolves around some kind of objectivity towards winners-losers; i think that its very subjective-personal.

Some of us still think that "winning" is achieving personal meaning rather than MONEYMONEYMONEY which is the prevalent notion of "win".

I have to go right now, but yes, at least you USA spags still live under a non-crushing ideal of life; in the third world we cant help and see a pig and quickly make a checklist for what-you-could-possibly-get-extorted-for; we cant help but just think of how we gonna use the next paycheck; most of us dont bother to vote anymore; 25% of us fight our way to get an education and hope for some kind of class mobility.

There is nothing more performance oriented than...

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IWannaBeTheFangame

or i swear to the Elder Gods, playing Starcraft vs. South Koreans... i cant even begin to stress this point... from 9:30 to 11:30 on one can only be humbled by the precision

And this is why i like to play old Starcraft:Broodwars.

I get my ass handed to me every single time by a superior South Korean opponent, and it is a truly humbling experience to know that fine motor skills and hand eye coordination, or actions per minute or discipline in the build order are not culturally fomented in latin speaking countries.

But i try, by the Overmind i swear i try...

Not saying its a good movie, but, ever seen "Little Miss Sunshine"?

The father has that kind of dialectic going on.

QuoteLarger than life tends to fit in a grave very nicely a lot of the time.

True, and most of the people I used as examples met unpleasant ends. But speaking personally, I'd rather live like one of those guys for one decade than spend a lifetime being just another face in the crowd.

Your destiny is yours alone to control.

I disagree with this idea, we are nowhere close to controlling a lot of things.

In and of itself "taking the reins" i find it to be heroic, even if it leads up to nothing or disaster; in other words trying to accomplish what is meaningful for oneself.

And no man, this isnt to shit on your thread, i consider it deconstruction, this is the last time i heard the phrase, and i wonder if it somehow tangentionally it triggered something in you to write this Op.

This meme seed exists from 9 years ago, and to be "larger than life" to the general population is:

"Every time we're down
You can make it right"

So basically to be "larger than life" is to act as a codependant/fixer??

Shouldnt being "larger than life" be something else?

Its just that ive only heard about it, never read it, and it didnt seem to have a strong case because Tom Cruise (was it him?) starred in the movie adaptation, and the theme symbolism seemed like crypto-nationalism in the form of "OH NO we are INVADED by OTHERS we must UNITE".

But hey, if it gives you synergy and Hatetm for a rant, so be it.
That movie was only kinda like the book.

Only saw the trailer.

So you saw a trailer of a remake of a remake of a film, and are thus condemning the book?

Wat?  :lulz:

That book wasnt a big hit down here, you are reacting as if i was raised in Amurrica.

I know that sometimes physical isolation cant be helped, but im always wary of it...

Stopped the TV since 11 years ago...

I might have escaped the commercials and the passive-vegetable assimilation process of information... but can we really be freed from the distance we have made from reality? I spend way too much time on the internet, whereas i could hypothetically be doing something else... but i owe the internet a lot of what i know of... maybe one day i will have gotten what i need from it and will be able to cut back on it significantly...
