ProTools.

music software envy ITT.

thats big bucks that stuff.

Also, a question, how would one go about getting audio from a cassette to a computer?
I'm still a novice at this stuff.

ProTools requires specific hardware in order to run.

But there's plenty of software out there that's as good as ProTools.

For analog->digital, you need a few things:

1. an a/d - d/a card (most new computers should have one).
2. an audio input jack.
3. an RCA -> 1/9" jack cord
4. a digital audio program that can record from your input jack.

There are other ways to do it as well.  I think they sell an all-in-one device that converts the analog signal, and is essentially an RCA -> USB cord, with the a/d in the middle.  But the above is the cheapest.

You mean dongle? Or a recording studio or something?

WHAT BUT I'M A COMPUTER PROGRAMMER AND I WILL NOT STAND FOR IT AND IT'S STEALING AND MY BREAD AND I WILL BE POOR AND LIVE IN THE GUTTER AND NOBODY WILL EVER BE ABLE TO USE A COMPUTER AGAIN BECAUSE WHO'S GONNA PROGRAM IT IF THEY DON'T GET ANY -- oh wait. never mind.

we nerds program computers cause we like it hehehe *snort* too late now to convince the world we're snobby and should have coders-labels and live like kings :-/

If all it's doing is checking these things are there then it's crackable but if it doesn't do anything without these then theres obviously no point.

Thanks, seems relatively simple.  All I need is the cord then I guess, are those fairly easy to find?  For example would a place like Best Buy or RadioShack have such a thing or do I need to look in more specialized places?

First off, it's RCA-> 1/8" jack.  Whoops.

Second, RadioShack for the cable, online for the program (try MusicMatch for a free one), and if you don't have the card or audio input, SOL.

For the all-in-one device, I saw one at Microcenter.  CompUSA might have one, even Best Buy, maybe.

AFK

Cool, I already have the software I just wasn't too sure how to go about it.  Eventually I want to totally computerize my recording studio but for now the 4-track will have to do.
Cynicism is a blank check for failure.

LMNO

Well, a few things to watch out for...

Some programs don't recognize the analog audio in jack on the computer, and watch out for the input level clipping or being inaudible.

Also, some can't handle a very long input time, and will glitch the recording.  Other than that, send the signal (RCA side) out the amp/receiver, and into the jack.

AFK

Okay, another audiophyle question then.  Basically, I write most of my music on keyboard and guitar.  I know I can do a midi keyboard to the computer, though I seem to get a slight lag between the keyboard and the music program which is very annyoing.

Anyway, I'd love to be able to just somehow feed the guitar right to the computer into my music recording software.  What kind of interface(s) does one need in order to do that?
