The Mail on Sunday has "unreservedly" apologised "for a reporter intruding into a private memorial service" for Labour leader Ed Miliband's uncle.

Editor Geordie Greig's apology came after Mr Miliband wrote to the paper's owner asking him to "reflect on the culture of your newspapers".

Mr Miliband said relatives at th memorial event had been asked for views on "the Daily Mail's description of my father as someone who 'hated Britain'".

The Daily Mail stands by its reporting.

The moniker of "The Daily Heil" becomes more apt every day really.

I'm genuinely heartened that the response to this has largely been 'wtf is wrong with you assbags'.

I don't think they can (or should) legislate against this sort of thing, but round denouncement and shaming is the correct way to respond to assholes.
