This is why it is so vitally important to lie about all of your vital stats on FB, and like random shit.

Or, even easier, never touch the fucking thing in the first place.

My reluctance and paranoia about it seems more justified by the day.

Appreciated. The sarin comparison is useful, as is the quick primer on how nerve agents actually work.

I'm still putting a fiver on Dacre as the culprit though.

It's probably not gas, nerve agents can come in liquid forms as well and that would be better for a targeted attack.  However nothing has been confirmed so far.

The other reason that Russia is the likely culprit is that terrorist groups and organised crime simply don't have the kind of sophisticated personnel or labs to create these kind of weapons.

Question: Guy and daughter lived, which implies incorrect or ineffective dose. Would this not potentially implicate a third actor with access to similar but shittier tech? Russia acting through a proxy allowing deniability seems to be the general MO, assuming Russia is the main benefactor (Not that there are any other apparent).

Also, chances of Russian citizen acting, not Russian state? Guessing ex-spy probably has a few financial records of a couple of oligarchs. Or could be assumed to by someone of that nature. Would help explain the sloppy nature of events.

Foreign governments aren’t the only groups spending money in the hopes of currying favor with Trump. Companies are getting in on the action as well.

The National Mining Association and Chamber of Commerce have plunked down bags of money at Trump properties, even though (or perhaps because) they have substantial policy interests that can be addressed by the executive branch.

One private prison company is already reaping rewards. According to the Washington Post, executives and wardens from GEO group, which runs private prisons, “gathered for four days of meetings, dinner receptions and golf outings at the luxurious 800-acre Trump National Doral, [following] an intense effort by GEO Group to align itself with the president and his administration.”

After that expenditure, GEO group — which also gave $225,000 to a pro-Trump super PAC and $250,000 to Trump’s inaugural committee — “secured the administration’s first contract for an immigration detention center, a deal worth tens of millions a year.”

I will admit that my concern is that she is going to deny everything, and turn it into a "he said, she said" kind of a thing.  In that situation, I would walk, even without a job to go into, the moment the references from HR allowed me to put down a deposit on renting elsewhere.

I've already stomached more shit than I should have from management, but management is mostly a distant concern and I can ignore them due to the unsociable hours I work.  There's no-one around to tell me at 3am I should be doing pointless patrols or putting up posters that no-one will ever look at.  I would be handing over to this person on a daily basis, however.  Sooner or later I'd end up clocking her one or simply refusing to do the handover at all.

There would also be the issue that, yes on paper it's one person's word against another.  But I'm a senior residence supervisor, with 3 years in the company, no record of making spurious allegations, no record of any form of vendetta with this staff member beyond the concerns sent about her lack of work ethic.  In that case, management refusing to take my side would be akin to saying they think I'm making shit up for some reason.  And if they really think I'm that delusional or vindictive...well, why am I being entrusted with 200+ students again?

I've sort of reached a state of zen-like detatchment about the issue, on one level.  Because of the way in which it happened, I wasn't able to vent about it for hours (I quietly fumed on a train, before concluding that no matter what, there was nothing I could do at this point and so I should concentrate on other things).  Since getting back, I've not been able to talk about it either, because no other members of staff know about this incident.  You would think that would make me feel like I'm bottling it up, but it's almost the reverse.  I already decided, on the day, what my response would be if management didn't do the right thing.

So really I've just been waiting, to see what will happen.

It's a real shame that the result can't be filmed.

So i'm moving to Malaysia at the end of the month. Flying out this weekend - a week in Dubai for training then a week in Vietnam visiting customers before my contract even officially starts before finally ending up in Kuala Lumpur.

Pretty excited. Kinda nervous.

Thanks to those of you who encouraged the decision. I should still be about.

Good luck, that sounds pretty awesome man. Travel safe and try and stay out of prison in Dubai.

No, seriously, don't piss anyone off there or this ends badly before it even begins.

Nigerian officials complained bitterly of social media’s intrusion and the compromises it forced them to consider. Some believed the girls’ fame only prolonged their captivity. Others resented the lack of focus placed on tens of thousands of other children the insurgents had abducted or murdered.

Then there is the matter of the ransom, which has never before been disclosed. Nigeria’s government hasn’t publicly detailed what it offered Boko Haram, or where any funds came from. Several senior officials confirmed that the swap included the release of five captured militants and a total of three million euros, delivered in two drop-offs.

“We had no choice,” said one cabinet minister. “And if we had to pay the same price again, we would.”

To a threadbare insurgency that had been driven into the mountains, the two payments in 2016 and 2017 represented a timely windfall. Since they collected the money, the group has stepped up its terrorist attacks. The number of suicide bombs detonated in Nigeria, most strapped to children, has seen a fourfold increase from the previous year.

No HA HA here, just a pretty grim outlook for the region for the next 5-10 years or so at least.

How does it feel to be banned again?

1.  Evading a ban.
2.  Banned PD as a whole from another group.

I kind of wanted to see how long he'd last before cracking. From the dates it would have easily been by now.

You lot really have failed at educating the next generation, haven't you?

This is a lot of new blood. Looks like my riffraff conjuration spell worked.

Reminder that you probably shouldn't be keen to take the credit unless you're also willing to take the blame.

Nothing personal, you know the rules and the punishments. We're also out of rusty barbed wire so you'll have to supply your own when the time comes. Usual dress code will still apply, naturally.

It's just odd that this is the tipping point for gamer outrage, like hey it's okay to throw us over a barrel with loot boxes, half finished games, rushed AAA titles, main game content withheld as DLC, dishonest gameplay trailers and promises - but don't withhold Darth Vader.

If it were a legitimate push to be smarter consumers I'd be all for it. By all means let's stop pre-ordering everything and quit buying games just because that's what everybody else is playing. But the demand here seems to be to have our hype based game grabs fulfilled without condition.

This is why I only play single player games that are 2-5 years old and I buy on sale. Witcher 3 is going great, everyone, really loving the Blood and Wine expansion.

Yes, yes, late to the party but I've kept an eye on the best thing to come of it.

It's fucking fantastic. Seriously.
Good summary review:

As far as I can see, the only game that is likely to be worth actual money in the foreseeable future is probably Bannerlord and that assumes it will ever actually get a release date, never mind an actual release.

And even then, it's probably best ignoring it for another year or so to let the modders fix/update/upgrade everything over the base game.

Considering a few hundred quid has also gone walkabout from that flat while you were away, I'd be inclined to make it a police matter to start with.

But yes, fuck them. With great vigour.

In case you haven't been paying attention, we're always fucked. There is never any hope and this time it is always different. This time it's usually foreals, as opposed to all the other times before where we were told it was foreals but it turned out not to be, this time it truly is. Just like all those other times.

Worrying about whatever brand of foreals bullshit is being paraded as the end of civilisation this month got old for me some time around my mid 20's. The last one I remember giving a passing fuck about was the nuclear holocaust that failed to materialise, with clockwork regularity, on the hour, every hour for about a decade and a half, thus ruining any shot of passing into adolescence and planning for the future I might have had.

Protip: We are not fucked. We never have been and, to the best of my knowledge, we never will be. Now I know that's not what you might want to hear but, unfortunately for you, that's how it is. And always has been, ever since the first hysterical monkey learned to rub his opposable, panic stricken thumbs together and yell "We're fucked and there is no hope" Primate was wrong then and he's still wrong seven billion years down the line.

In an existential sense, yeah, sure we're fucked. Pretty soon each and every one of us is going to start rotting and dying and, if you manage to avoid being crushed by a falling piano, the best you have to look forward to is trying to remember who your family are and how to piss and shit without it filling up your trousers. Yeah, in this sense we are all fucked. To death. There is no Jesus, Allah or the fucking tooth fairy going to stick you back together again. Couple of years from now - you die. Enjoy.

Meanwhile you got options. You can either worry about how hard you are about to be fucked (foreals this time) or you can choose to not give a shit about the impending dildo apocalypse or, even better, to laugh at all the assholes throwing their life away whining about how it's not fair and how we're all fucked. There are victims on every corner. Corners they mostly painted themselves into and refuse to leave. That shit's funny if you have the stomach to laugh. If you don't then yeah, we're all fucked.

Foreals this time.

It's a little more than the usual, this time.  The tax bill they're voting on tomorrow, for example, basically makes merit-based grad school a thing of the past.  As in, if you can't lay out the $$$, you can't go at all (the tax bill states that the waived tuition and stipend become taxable as income).  Zenpatista, here, runs a flock of grad students, and will probably lose the bunch of them.  Which cripples the chemistry department at the university here.

The bill also further cripples education from K-12.

So what happens is we suddenly have an outright aristocracy in function as well as form.

The funniest thing about this is that by slashing education related crap you're ensuing that this kind of stupidity will happen again, and again and again. And the people elected will just be worse each time too. You'll reminisce over idiot when you're dealing with President shkreli or President Actually The Reanimated Corpse of Reagan.

Putin announced intention to stand for re-election in 2018.

In other news, Putin wins 2018 election.

8. The kinds of progressives who are currently being laughed out of global politics because of their "crazy ideas"... are not nearly progressive enough to do any good, even if they got everything they asked for. Despite half of the planet being consumed with Hollywood blockbuster entertainment about superheroes and spaceships, it turns out nobody actually has any imagination.

It's kind of worse than this. In the last 6 months I can't recall hearing a new "progressive" idea. When was the last time you heard one? The next one you're likely to hear about is equal rights for Whatever nominal fetish or sexuality you want to invent. Being progressive is no longer about advancing everyone, just your own tiny and inconsequential agenda. Seriously, hit me with an idea that's not either been talked to death a billion times over for decades. If you can pull out anything more helpful to everyone than "Equal rights for furries" I'm all ears.

I am not implying V3x or Howl are furries. I am insinuating it.
