Suppose you gate-crash an IT Job Fair...

Now suppose that while there, you get a free thumb drive, but it's only 64 MB.

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH IT?

(inb4 ASCII porn)

Requia ☣

I used one for a bios update.

Also: Encrypt something on it and put it into somebody's (who you don't like) suitcase right before they leave for the airport.

Porn and leave it in a Legislator's office.  [/obligatory]

Since it's small and cheap as free, I'd say load it with texts, PDF's, or images any aspiring asshole or fellow jerk might make want, and be ready to hand it out when you meet someone who could use it.

Anyone ever think about how Richter inhabits the same reality as you and just scream and scream and scream, but in a good way?   :lulz:

Golden Applesauce

I had a 16MB one I just used for source code.
Q: How regularly do you hire 8th graders?
A: We have hired a number of FORMER 8th graders.

These are all great ideas.

My original plan was to put some kind of autoexecuting prank on it, so that instead of having to expend actual effort on a computer prank I could just plug it in.

It'd be a fun trick, but how often do you need to roll around fucking up other people's computers?

Pity it's not 1-4 gigs, you could set it up to boot linux.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say constantly.

What about Damn Small Linux?

I'm pretty sure that if you get the right distro you should be able to fit Linux in 64MB easily. IIRC I had one running on a (1.4MB) floppy ages ago, on some cheap ass ancient 386 to function as a router.

What might be more fun (or completely dickish and evil depending on how you look at it / use it) is, I once saw a schematic that apparently you just need to open the thing up and connect the right (wrong) two wires, and since the USB port is also connected to the computer power source (it charges iPods, after all) it fries the victims motherboard upon insertion. I read it on a messageboard related to the anon scientology raids, I have no idea if it works, it seems plausable and I bet you can easily find the info on google.

Then, mail it to your favourite politician or RIAA-type head figure. Add a nice looking formal letter maybe pretending to come from a plausible source. Even if they don't trust it, their first instincts will be to perform a virus scan ...

e-prime disclaimer: let it seem fairly unclear I understand the apparent subjectivity of the above statements. maybe.

INFORMATION SO POWERFUL, YOU ACTUALLY NEED LESS.

If you store plain ascii text documents, 64mb can store a hell of a lot of reading material.

One thing I read about on Make or Instructable or somewhere was the idea of hiding a USB disk in a wall in the form of a telephone jack. As long as you connect the same four wires to the same four places, there *shouldn't* be any problem with that, though arguably you might want to store more than 64mb.

I did manage to find Enki's hard drive disguised as a phone jack on Instructables.

Sadly, no sign of Triple Zip's mobo-fryer (although the google results suggest it is possible).  I am not giving up just yet.

Swap pins 1 and 2, I figure. Or, connect 1 and 4 to 2 and 3 respectively while removing the actual source of 2 and 3.

Nice.  From what I've read, USB ports are supposed to be shielded from that sort of thing...But often aren't.

This is relevant to my interests.
Is it plugged in?
