An Arizona House committee passed a bill last week that would require every student at a public college in the state, regardless of economic status, to pay a minimum of $2,000 in tuition.

As Think Progress noted, nearly 100 Arizona students attended the committee hearing to speak out against the bill, HB 2675, expressing concern that it would make it more difficult for many students to afford college. Rep. Michelle Ugenti (R-Scottsdale) responded bluntly in favor of the new measure: "Welcome to life."

This doesn't just mean subsidies would be hit.  It also means that kids with full-ride scholarships would have to pay $2000 of their own money on top of the full tuition granted by the scholarship.

It does not raise the tuition itself, for people who are self-paying, with the exception that it would increase the minimum cost/semester to $2000.

We have the first outright "poor tax" in America.   

The goal, obviously, is to prevent poor people from getting an education.

What's the reasoning behind passing something like this? Or are we reaching the point where politics becomes indistinguishable from comic book villainy?

VANCOUVER, Canada - The world's first "test-tube" meat, a hamburger made from a cow's stem cells, will be produced this fall, Dutch scientist Mark Post told a major science conference on Sunday.

Post's aim is to invent an efficient way to produce skeletal muscle tissue in a laboratory that exactly mimics meat, and eventually replace the entire meat-animal industry.

The ingredients for his first burger are "still in a laboratory phase," he said, but by fall "we have committed ourselves to make a couple of thousand of small tissues, and then assemble them into a hamburger."

Not at all, but I figured that I might as well check to see if there are any cheap bus rides up there. The Southeastern Discordians don't get around to many meet-ups. 

I can dig it, violence is definitely the wrong way to incentivize positive change. I can't help but taste the subtle tang of irony though... because the ultimate aims of occupy are to do violence to a system, to smash a hierarchy, to overthrow archons, to strain and twist the existing relationships of power... Just, you know, conceptually violent, not physically violent.

So would this be right? The aim is to disrupt the game, not be a disruption within it. Something like streakers, as opposed to someone playing who could be penalized. (Feel free to improve on the metaphor.)
I'm strained to think of some thing that was inherently important to such a system that could be destroyed that would have a serious effect of said system.

The main problem, as I see it, is that the original version is no longer available in any current format. If a DVD had the option of "theater release" and "director's cut", none of this would be happening.

That sounds like probable cause to me.

Perhaps I should be more clear. What I mean to convey is that the world would be different if people were this weird outwardly rather than saving it all up and putting it on the internet or keeping it in the privacy of their homes. Maybe not better, but certainly more honest.

How would you go about being "outwardly weird"?
