Oh, but that wouldn't be Discordian.  You have to type lots of gibberish, because that's what this is all about.

:lulz:

Oh I think I get Discordia now.

Let's try this again.

One thing I think most of us have in common is a distaste for organized religions. (surprise!) Many of us were raised in a religious environment, or at the very least were exposed to religion, but aren't "religious" anymore. Why? What happened?

I'm curious to hear about other people's experiences with Organized Religion. What made you decide it was for spags?

I'm with you bones.

People come here for different reasons. Some come for social reasons, some like learning things, some like showing off what they've learned, some like big games, projects, pranks, and mischief. And a dozen other reasons. None of these are bad reasons to hang out on PD.

What irks me is that some people come here because they want to be a part of something cool, and then they don't do it. They want to get invested in the same group energy that produced the BIP, Colbertgasm, Postergasm, and a dozen other cool projects. But instead they waste their time trying to get everybody on the same page as them. They get distracted by all the monkeybusiness and forget that there are other ways to participate.

We've seen it so many times. Some newbie comes in, devours the content that's here, and has all this GO energy... then they get distracted and fade off. Maybe someone shouted at them, or maybe someone disagreed with them. Or maybe they put some effort into starting something and nobody ran with it. So they get frustrated, and they fade. I can't honestly blame them, but it's weak.

And that's the reason you've gotta be ready to do it yourself. It's not because the hivemind isn't interested in doing cool stuff, it's because it's easily distracted. Sometimes stuff works, sometimes stuff doesn't. I've learned that you have to overcome that fear that your project isn't going to take off, and just run with the flag yourself. If it looks fun, people will jump on board. If nobody jumps on board, and you're not willing to finish it yourself, your didn't deserve a finished project anyway. For every completed project, there are a hundred "We should do this..." posts. It's memetics at work.

I would LOVE it if some of the people who like pranks, projects, writings, games, mischief, etc, took
A) a more active role in CREATING that kind of content
B) a more active role in PARTICIPATING in that kind of content

because hey, I'm a lot more likely to help out with your project if you help out with mine. Same goes for everyone here, I think.

In closing, Bones, I think you've got some good restless energy. I hope you use it to propel yourself into cool things. I agree that PD is a force to be reckoned with - when we're focused. But trial and error have proven that the best way to focus everybody is not to soapbox, but to lead by example.

From my point of view, anyway, other than some weird philanthropic mission to help others escape (not really my style) there is no real way to progress, it's almost like it's saying "Hey! Congratulations, you broke out" and I'm like, "so now what?"

My answer to this is contained in the following parable:

QuoteBung Fu the Fool stood buck naked before the monk Nopants. Eventually, Nopants looked up over his morning newspaper. Surprised to see a peen at eye level before him, he spit coffee everywhere.

"Somehow," said the monk, who himself was naked from the waist down, "I was not prepared for that."

"Good morning Wise Master Nopants!" said Bung Fu cheerfully. "I did what you advised: I Let Go of everything so I could learn to swim on my own."

"That's bullshit," said Nopants, pointing at bung-fu with a spoon. "You're just parading around naked because you think it'll somehow enlighten you."

"But master, that's what you do!" cried Bung Fu, embarassed.

"No," said Nopants. "I do it for me. You're doing like me. You haven't let go of anything. You just grabbed my shrapnel and made it your own."

Bung Fu thought about this. "Mise Waster Nopants, what am I supposed to do after I let go? I can't just let go of everything, that's not a good survival strategy."

"You're right," said Nopants. "But it's not really about letting go. It's about being able to let go. It's about realizing that all that stuff you're carrying around is mostly dead weight. So learn to live without that dross."

"And then what?"

Nopants leaned forward as if he was about to whisper a lesson or a great secret. Bung Fu leaned in, eager for instruction. Nopants reached out and slapped right in the goddamn monkey face.

"Think for yourself, shmuck!"

Yes, it's an issue. But we don't have FTP access, so there's not much we can do to fix it ATM. I saw Faust shoop up a new logo, but it doesn't look like it's been posted.

and I'm glad that there are rational people like you working in your field, RWHN.

Can you give us any more legal tips concerning this particular demonstration of our First Amendment rights?

I mean, I put this shit up EVERYWHERE. And the cops in my town are corrupt as hell. Is there a chance I could actually get fined or something for putting posters up on telephone poles, etc?
