Title: The Truth About The "Octomom"
Post by: Cainad (dec.) on March 04, 2009, 06:00:45 PM
Just like Terri Schiavo, the Octomom story is a media circus. It's nothing more or less than a cash cow for the TV and newspapers, and frankly it's (yet another) wretched disgrace to journalism.

Why do they do it? Why do they keep sending people out to dredge up every last damn detail about this woman's life and her fourteen children?

Because it's a "human interest" story, where in this case the humans are interested in flinging their shit, er, excuse, me, opinions (we aren't monkeys, of course!) at a pointless and insignificant spectacle because everyone is too chickenshit to fling their opinions at the people around them, or at the issues that actually matter. I'd bet my left testicle that 99% of the people who gleefully share their "strong opinions" about Nadya Suleman wouldn't make so much as a peep if they lived next door to her.

The media has put this woman on a stage, under the limelight, with a nice big sign that says "JUDGE THIS" because we humans absolutely love to pass shit, um, pardon me, judgment on other people, but most of us are too damn cowardly to do it to the people near us, or too lazy to do it to the issues that might actually influence their own lives.

And NOW look what you made me do; now I'm flinging shit right along with everybody else. Bob fucking damn it.

I agree that the focus on Octomom, the individual, has been overkill.

Way more attention needs to be paid to the actual underlying issue which is how medical advances in fertility treatments can end up being bad-wrong in the wrong hands, or in this case, uterus.

true enough, but "The Octomom" would make a great name for a super-villian.

I dunno... when people do something spectacularly idiotic I think its good to point and laugh. Hell, I think this woman deserves far more news attention than Paris Hilton's or Britney Spears' pantyless crotch. It is a microcosom of the sort of HORIFFIC DUMB that plagues America these days.

1) Woman is not married, nor does she have a partner, yet she wants a baby... why? Because she wants babies ever since she was a kid? This is immature and selfish.

2) Woman has multiple babies and can't work so the government pays for their care and feeding. This is also immature and selfish.

3) Woman HAS MORE FUCKING BABIES. and we GOTO 2.

Paris and Brittney are selfish, immature and thoughtless. However, their sort of actions aren't about to actually affect me in any way. If they ride around with no bra, or have their baby in the front seat or get a porn tape stolen... its net effect on the people of this country is 0, unless they're idiots that think TV is some sort of Oracular Deity. This lady, now has bunches of babies which she can't support, and which we all now get to pay for until they turn 18.

8 babies split over a few million taxpayers is not, a huge deal... but how many other idiot women like this might be out there thinking "I CAN HAZ 8 BABYES?!?!?! YAY I CAN BE MOMMY!!!!

She deserves whatever flack she gets.

And I'd say that to her face.

It's also not like the woman is trying to hide from the press.

I think she digs all the attention she gets and this weighed heavily on her impetus to have yet another salvo of kids.

Annnnnd Roger nails it.

Ratatosk, I think you should seriously ask yourself how big the risk is that enough women will be insane enough and have the financial resources AND be able to find an unethical doctor to do it, that this could EVER potentially become a really-for-reals social problem?

It certainly isn't newsworthy, it's just another twitch to distract us from pondering the things that we should really be outraged about.

I completely agree that she's stupid.

But I don't care. I don't think she presents any kind of actual threat or that she's going to set a precedent or some bullshit. Everybody I know already thought that having a fuckton of kids that you can't support is a bad life decision; nobody needs to have a weirdo put up on stage like a circus freakshow so we can all self-righteously talk about how dumb she is.

This isn't a critical issue that requires all of America turn into a fucking ethics committee; it's an opportunity for people to say "LOL DUMBASS, boy it sure does help my self-esteem to know that I'm not that fucking stupid, and also it fills my vapid and boring existence to have something to get all judgmental over."

STUPID deserves derision.

If we lived in a more enlightened age, we would have more elegant weapons like rotten fruit to throw at idiots and assholes that behave stupidly and make our brains hurt. Alas, we no longer have the luxury of stating our opinion with month old eggs and half-black tomatoes. Don't misunderstand, I wish we had this venue for far more than just Octo-Mom. Everyone at Fox news, for example, should regularly be pelted with garbage. The CEO of GM, Merril-Lynch, Bear Stearns etc should be carted from one city to the next, so we can cover them with rotted fruit, then they can go get covered by our tax dollars.

If Octomom had Paris Hilton's inheritance, I would still consider her actions to be selfish and thoughtless. Fourteen children and one mother. Do you really think that she will be able to raise fourteen kids in a way that will be healthy and supportive? Teachers claim they can work best with a class of 20... and that's just a few hours a day on specific subjects.

The actions of Octomom, are the actions of a nation... writ tiny with frozen sperm. Octomom is living the life she wants, regardless as to the likelyhood that it is a life she can sustain. THAT, minus the in-vitro  bit... IS THE WHOLE FUCKING COUNTRY. WHY are we in the shithole right now? Is it all because of teh evil Bushies and the Damned Bankers? NO. It's because of selfish, thoughtless people, from the Commander in Chief to the Chief Executive Officer to Joe the Fucking Plumber and Octomom. Octomom is not a new trend, Octomom is just doing with fetuses (feti?), what everyone else was doing with money... multiplying it in a fake non-sustainable manner, that someone else will have to pay for.

Too trite.

Congress makes regular deliveries to bungholes across the world... even when there is no Octomom distraction. This Country no longer cares. Half the states no longer mandate Government in schools (So sayeth Ruth Bater Ginsburg). Only 25% of Americans can NAME the three branches of government. AND THAT was before Octomom. Octomom is not distracting America from the bunghole rape.  Octomom just gives them someplace to go while they're squealing like a piggy.

If it weren't Octomom it would be pantyless Paris. In the grand scheme of things, I think Octomom deserves more derision.

Maybe. Public humiliation for stupidity certainly seems like a reasonable treatment.

However, Nadya Suleman is actually enjoying all this attention, for one thing, and for another, turning her into a media circus act isn't going to help push Americans in the direction of taking responsibility for their own actions. It's just going to reinforce the already-existing general opinion that people shouldn't have more babies than they can support (for a given definition of support, of course).

All this brouhaha over one idiot and her ovaries teaches America one thing. It's something we already knew, but people need a refresher course in it every once in a while: If you do something monumentally stupid, especially if it relates to something that people have strong feelings about (i.e. childbirth), you will get lots of attention.

Her's just happened to involve a vagina.

Maybe. Public humiliation for stupidity certainly seems like a reasonable treatment.

However, Nadya Suleman is actually enjoying all this attention, for one thing,

I bet she wouldn't be enjoying it nearly as much if it were the 'stocks and cabbage' circuit rather than the Dr. Phil and Good Morning America Circuit ;-)

Quote
and for another, turning her into a media circus act isn't going to help push Americans in the direction of taking responsibility for their own actions.

Yep. I agree. And given what America has been outraged by in the past few years... I think this one has at least some reason for the outrage. Obviously, the media takes it too far, but that's all American media does with every story they get these days.

Real reason:  While you're busy being outraged by Octomom, Congress is making a special delivery to your bunghole.

Too trite.

Also true.  See below.

Quote from: Ratatosk on March 05, 2009, 04:42:14 PM
Congress makes regular deliveries to bungholes across the world... even when there is no Octomom distraction. This Country no longer cares. Half the states no longer mandate Government in schools (So sayeth Ruth Bater Ginsburg). Only 25% of Americans can NAME the three branches of government. AND THAT was before Octomom. Octomom is not distracting America from the bunghole rape.  Octomom just gives them someplace to go while they're squealing like a piggy.

So what?  Go back and look at the legislation that passed during the Teri Schiavo bullshit.  Or the Lacey Pederson crap.  Or Octomom.

Congress isn't concerned about the 75% that thinks they have an elected king.  They don't HAVE to get them, because they've been HAD ALL ALONG.  They're interested in the next 10% up the food chain...the ones who know they should be mad, but can't decide what to be mad ABOUT, because they're kept too busy and too off balance to catch their breath long enough to puzzle it all out.  So they're given something EASY to be mad about, and they throw their tantrums and then go back to their cubes for the rest of their fucking lives.

So forgive me for being a little amused that you're too upset about stupid people.  And why am I amused?  Because you're buried up to your arse in them, and you're busy screeching about/to them about their stupidity, which they can't help and wouldn't do anything about if they could.  Be fucking mad at the sun for rising, for Chrissakes.  And meanwhile, the top 2% will continue pissing down your neck and telling you it's raining.

But at least you aren't stupid, like Octomom and Paris Hilton and all the other things used to keep you pissed off at the wrong shit.

Right?

As i poorly stated a while ago, i try to keep my motives dissociated from politics.  The motives are usually wheels within wheels, or greed based.  Funny, they told me the same thing when our ally South Korea, faced the threat of a TBM and our radar was one of few that could detect it.  They also happen to be the largest customer of US Military goods and services, and there also happened to be a bill on the floor of congress upping the amount of $money$ a foreign nation can spend without high level approval... that bump... i tink covered, the cost of that radar. heh

Then again Korea always seems to be on the brink of war.  Kim Jung Il is frequently trying to scare the shit out of his neighbors and i'm always waiting for that crazy son of a bitch to just say fuck it one day.  They should stop being pussies and just do it already.

Maybe not with this turkey-in-chief, but surely with the next. Screw the Amero, we're going to make everyone but Canada love the Dollar.

If China or Russia recovers before the USA, place bets on systemic war.  Or, at the very least, a massive shift of power and lots of proxy wars.  I don't see it happening, one of the graces of the financial crisis is that it hit everywhere within a few months and so, while reducing overall economic output, it has in essence preversed the current status quo.  But depending on who does what, challenges to US primacy in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and SE Asia may be more common.  Russia is already relying on quasi-5GW techniques (hackers, lawfare, energy resources) to force US allies to become less enthusiastically supportive of the country.  But since Russia is essentially an energy company with an army right now, they may factor in the economic costs of such a conflict and shy away.  China is sticking with the USA for now, but there is only so much shit they will take.  Their use of populist elements in the country is going to bite them in the ass sooner or later, and could eventually force them to move in unexpected and unpredictable ways - ones which may not be in the interest of the USA or Japan.

I saw that "tent cities" are gowing up in Cali, as well as Lincolnshire, not to mention 90% of Africa.

I think the series of events (after "tent cities") will be:

1.  natural disaster
2.  pandemic
3.  martial law
4.  coup d'état
5.  missile strike
6.  thunderdome*

(*I hope we have electric cars befoe that shit)

The escapism of the Octomom media blitz comes about very aptly with the "natural" disasters we have going on in geopolitix, it's true.  I think it's ok to spend a bit of time exploring how shitty those situations seem, as long as t he BIG PICTURE on what's being passed through the brown eye of Congress and the White House is never off the table.  It's when Octomom gets 1m hits and AB5437-A "Initiative to Jail All Citizens for Public Sneezing" etc.  gets 20K that worries  me.

Currently, in the state of CA, we pay more per prisoner per annum than we do per child in public education funding.  WE are now FIFTIETH in the nation.

If there's news about CA I want to see 1m+ hits on, that's it.  I want the world to know that Sacramento wants to spend more money jailing its citizens than educating them.

I concur with Jenne. There's a huge gulf between saying "Octomom deserves whatever derision she gets" and "Octomom is more important that *insert some political nonsense here*". The sad fact is, if those 1M people hadn't been poking at Octomom, they would have been poking at Paris, Brittney, American Idol or LOLCats, they would not have been examining the problems of incarceration vs education in California.

Viral memology--I need to find a way to plant some viral memology in the "ook ook" brains of the citizenry, get that awareness up and shit.  Sorry, been beating my head against the brick wall lately, and the drip drip of the blood into my eyes is wearing me out.

My school district is cutting 420+ jobs, 260 of which are teachers, this Friday, and I just went to a rally/candlelight vigil for it last night.  Didn't make a lick of a difference, of course, though we got some SWEET news coverage.

Something along the lines of "State sponsored future retard"

When everyone is afraid of losing their own jobs, its hard to get them to consider the jobs of people whose salary they pay. Here in Columbus, the mayor asked the Police and Fire Dept to accept freezing wages for the year. The police refused and apparently we're dropping hundreds of them. The firemen, on the other hand, accepted and we didn't lose any of them.

In general, the citizens in town, didn't seem to give a shit either way. Though, it probably didn't make any new friends for the Cowtown Police Dept.

I lit into one bitch making comments on the newsfeed/video from last night already.  I think it was 515 am my time, and I just told her to stop emoting on bullshit like bonds and get her head out of her ass long enough to be educated before she commented.

I'll see if I can find the link...

I don't know if it's like this in most states, but in Oregon the education budget comes largely from property taxes. Needless to say this creates some major issues when home values are dropping, so many homeowners are foreclosing, and housing sales are at a virtual standstill. When people are hanging on by a thread and can barely make their mortgage payment as it is, they're not going to vote for any tax increases, however slight.

We have the almighty Prop 13, that decimated the property tax from being the primary source of funding for public school education.  We now have instead the impotent Prop 98, which is supposed to guarantee a certain percentage of the General Fund PLUS Cost of Living Adjustments.  The Governator has "borrowed" (and reneged on those loans) since he came to office.  So Prop 98 means jack and shit, and the loans are now on the chopping block of the Special Elections on May 19th.

Public Ed is fucked.  And since no one gives a shit, to the prisons the children go, where all the funding is put to work, anyway.

CALIFORNIA,

The Prison State

For the state of CA it is.  I'm not sure when the other states' laws legislate the time period for firings in the education community.  I'd wager it varies.

my wife went to one of the school cuts/budget meetings here in Sac. last night, it was lulz and :argh!:

from what i have heard ,the teachers all got up and made a ruckus, the big turd in charge got burned pretty good on the 100 thousand dollar a year protege she just hired and the big money she just spent redecorating her office and installing a fancy bathroom,

it wont make any difference in the end  and the kids will lose there chance to be educated but the teachers got some small satisfaction humiliating the woman in a public forum ..

it would be nice if the news covered this stuff the teachers are the only ones who seem to know how badly the money is being misspent..

We have crappy schools in AZ, too.  But we have guns and booze and hordes of perverts who are serious about having a good time.

You should consider relocating.  The high desert is where it's at.
