MysticWicks endorsement: "I've always, always regarded the Discordians as being people who chose to be Discordians because they can't be arsed to actually do any work to develop a relationship with a specific deity, they were too wishy-washy to choose just one path, and they just want to be a mishmash of everything and not have to work at learning about rituals or traditions or any such thing as that."

Perhaps....but more on that later.  I had a....highly productive day yesterday (before I read this even) and it may even develop into a loose Grand Not Really That Unified But Kinda Nifty Theory That Discordians Can Use or Adapt as They See Fit.

But its going to take a lot of writing and I do have some work hanging over me right now.

British sailors released.  Kicked out into a Tehran backstreet and told to find their own way home.  More on this as it happens.

Maybe.  TAZ's only seem to appear wherever state power is somewhat sketchy at best.  But statehood itself is a consensual belief.  If state power is shown to be far from omnipotent, a few TAZs could form.  However, they do often engage in violence against the state.  Thats one way of securing the territory and undermining belief in the states ability in the first place.  However, attacks need not be military.  They could be economic, or something else used in maintaining cohesion.

Opposition.  Its not a state as we concieve of it.  We operate under the system put in at the end of the Thirty Years War (the Peace of Westpahalia system, google the treaty) which is totally seperate to this.  It opposes the state in terms of loyalty and monopoly on violence, but it doesn't intend to overthrow the state or replace it (coup or irredentism).  Yet its existence puts the state in a very precarious and threatened position, even when it is not explicitly targeted, simply by virtue of its existence.  In many ways, this is similar to a working TAZ.

don't represent any cohesive ideology or material solution, but rather a plethora of different solutions that appeal (by providing meaning and/or security and/or economic advancement) to specific target groups,

are typically networks rather than hierarchies (they are not replacements for the state)

aren't tied to territory (and hence aren't required to provide services to anyone other than their members)

often find extremely profitable ways to finance their own growth

have developed a new method of warfare to protect themselves and extend their power (open source warfare)

Now consider that context when reading this: http://www.ctc.usma.edu/Tamimi/ISI--Fourth_Gen4.pdf

Naw, that's what scared bella off.

What scared the rest of them is how several of the most vicious bastards now have mod powers

Fixed.

Yeah, I've seen this sort of thing before.

As for here, I'm only temporarily in charge (when I'm not driving across the fucking country and back in a couple of days, anyway), but I really hate people who use an arbitrary position on a forum to make people respect their imaginary authority.  Its just another version of monkey social interaction, instead this time its with internet users.  Suck up to the admins and in most places you can get away with breaking almost every rule, if you don't mind being near universally loathed and acting as the mods "cat's paw".  Not to mention they'll have thier own private little club where the hoi paloi of the forum are not welcome.

Which is mostly why I really don't hold with that shit.  Not only does it breed resentment among friends and would be friends, there is really no need for it.  I like my opinions and words to mean something based on their own merits, not because I'm friends with a certain crowd or have a certain position.  I'm arrogant enough as it is, I don't need false flatterers and hangers-on to turn me into a total asshole.  Which is precisely what would happen if this place was run like some other forums.

She also thinks that all sex is rape.

I thought that was Susan Brownmiller's thing.

Anyway, I just tried to find the ms magazine forums again (boy, are THEY fun to troll!) but they've hidden them. :(

It was Dworkin.  She considered a liberatory war should be fought between the sexes, in true Franz Fanon style.  IOW, she was totally 100% nuts and really needed to get laid.

RAF pilots have been asked to consider the idea of flying suicide missions as a last-ditch tactic against terrorists.

The head of Britain's fast jet squadrons, Air Vice Marshal David Walker, raised the scenario in a "what if" session with senior pilots.

Yeah.  Its pretty complex, from what I hear.  But thats not necessarily a bad thing.

Of course, I just massively simplified a very complex set of concepts into a sentence, so resemblance to reality may be slight.
