I don't hate on Linux, to each his own sort of thing, but I couldn't figure out Ubuntu and internetting.  I felt like a derp.

I remember installing red-hat distributions that required a 600pp manual, twenty 3.5" disks and a long week-end.  Haven't seen slack distributions around for a while.  From a distance, Ubutnu seems like a popular "build".  I think I may be trying that next.  It just really pisses me off when I have a , well, "working" OS, that tries at every turn to retroactively break itself.  It's just plain stupid.

Why all the linux hate? Ubuntu and Mint are both built for non-nerds the slightly less nerdy.

If not, may I suggest an alternative method of destruction?

Yes.  4 years of that shit has worn thin, and there's only 3 of us now, so there is no reason for gigantic money pit.

For anyone having problems with windows 8/8.1 you can turn it into a passable facsimile of win7 by installing classic shell. Lets you dump metro and bring back the ver 7 start menu/orb

Once I did this I started to like 8 a lot. It's stable as a mofo (even compared to 7) and runs like shit off a stick. It's basically a pretty solid OS with a pathologically retarded gui. Ditch the gui and you should be good.
