Title: The Dollop - The Thread
Post by: Junkenstein on September 22, 2014, 07:19:34 AM
I've been listening to this for a while and it seems well worth a thread to keep a track of them.

In short, comedy podcast, mainly looking at historical US fuck-ups. Events, people, places, it's pretty varied.

http://thedollop.libsyn.com/

Why? Well, this week you've got the first biological terror attack in the US by a cult, through the use of diarrhoea. Who done it? Well technically the Guru, you may recall the guy who wanted to get into the Guinness book of records for having the most Rolls Royces? No? Then you need to listen to this shit.

"Where did all this idiocy occur?"", you may wonder. Where else, but Portland?

Ooh. Yeah. I heard about this guy. Incorporated his own town and shit. The Old Portlanders I talk to have told me such tales.

OK, that was not technically Portland, it was Antelope. Although they had quite a few houses in Portland as well.

The other good one recently that prompted the thread was William Walker.

William Walker was a filibuster. In the freebooter sense. Freebooters being basically pirates. Dude took a flag to Nicaragua and, well, it wasn't the greatest of plans. You're dealing with the great ancestral teabilly crowd here. And he wasn't even the only fucker doing it. There's a whole bunch of dudes who basically ran ponzi schemes promising colonists great times on the other side of the world and the common theme is "the sole survivor reported...."

I know that story as well.  First real use of biological terrorism by a non-state actor....which we know of.  It does suggest biological terrorism will probably far less apocalyptic than 12 Monkeys or Fringe suggests, and possibly more in keeping with, say, a 5GW "political manipulator" mindset (spread a virus to certain districts, keep those populations home on voting day, win the election).

Topics of upcoming Dollops include Emperor Norton and the Iraq war. Looking forward to them.

New Dollop up covering John Africa, the mentally retarded founder of MOVE and writer of "The guidelines".

A bit darker than the usual stuff, but if they're willing to have a look at people like this they've got material for years to come.

You may also  know/enjoy the tale of David Hahn, the boy who attempted to build a breeder reactor at home. That could (really should) have ended much worse than it did.

Still churning out quality. This week - Jack Parsons "The evil forrest gump".

Stunning, I'm quite lost for words at the moment.

Ah, Parsons.  Sexual deviant, occultist, rocket scientist and possible spy for Israel.  Also, if you believe the more "out-there" conspiracy theories, responsible for ripping a hole in reality which allows UFOs through.

Truly an accomplished man.

Oh that's surely going to be worth a look.

Latest Smallop is on the Leatherman. Mainly notable and disturbing for the attitudes displayed about the homeless and mental illness at the time and how little some of these attitude have changed.

It's probably somewhat more striking for as the latest bit of news I caught was about a 90 year old man being arrested for feeding the homeless. I shouldn't be surprised at Florida, but still.

I haven't read the biography Scott's basing his mini series on, but Feral House's Sex and Rockets (http://www.amazon.com/Sex-Rockets-Occult-World-Parsons/dp/0922915970#) is a good read.

I suspect that's one of the few times I'll ever see "feral house" and "good read" in the same sentence.

It'may be unique in being true too.

There's also one on Alexis St Martin and that's just a whole heap of what the fuck.

Does it mention the fact that in additoon to being a terr0rist he was also a crypto-Nazi bastard who advocated the killing of jews and cripples and the relocation of gays to concentration camps? I think that that stuff is way worse than the salmonella.

Latest Dollop covers the origins of the LAPD and associated history.

From the history of "Negro Alley" to the various fuckery involving the Chinese (Laws essentially legalising white on asian crime, to start with), LAPD month is shaping up nicely.

Next LAPD dollop tends to be more about Clinton Clifford.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clifford_Clinton

Wikipedia really fails to do him justice here. Free meals, meals for millions and so much more.

If you're not listening to this yet and loving it you're dead inside.

While it is arguably worse, it's just run of the mill crazy really. Having flunkies roaming around trying to give various "enemies" the shits is just fucking insane.

LAPD month has finished up with the Rampart events which some of you might remember. Just a lovely story all round there.

Some actual laughs with the reverse dollop on the fine cinema traditions of North Korea and the problems they had with all their films containing "sadness and crying". The result of trying to fix this, "Pulgasari", is now on my "to watch" list. And escaping people. Everyone loves an escape.

He also separated mothers from their children, advocating a kind of creepy communal childrearing in which nobody gets attached to each other or places special importance on any human being (other than himself).

In addition, when he wanted a married woman for himself, he would simply send the husband and children to other commune locations. Some of them were never reunited.

The dude was a complete shithole, and the annoying thing is that he went on to reinvent himself spouting different garbage, and people still quote his "wisdom" under the name Osho.

This thing remains high quality.

Recent good ones include this history of Cereal in America and Charles "Couldn't get laid in a sex cult" Giteau. The former makes you reconsider breakfast somewhat and the latter is an impressive exploration of delusion leading to a fairly famous assassination.

Still pretty decent. Quite an insight into how chunks of AMERICA have changed/not changed and why so much shit is wrong in certain places.

Good recent ones again are the fans of Philidelphia and the Newport Sex Scandal. US Navy at it's finest right there.

I have a friend who was part of the Baghwan cult, he moved to the commune in Oregon and everything.  He has some rather interesting stories.

I guess he and a few other pranksters decided the commune needed an opposition party, so they founded the "Negative Attitude Party"

New up is Tom Dennison and The Omaha Riot.

Credit where it's due, this is particularly fucked up. Beyond the man himself being a real class act, you've got the riot which is beyond fucked up. Any race riot where white guys are being arrested in blackface is not ending well.

New up is Milton and his three jesuses.

I thought I was pretty well versed in fucked up psychological experiments until this one.

The very short version :
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Three_Christs_of_Ypsilanti

QuoteTo study the basis for delusional belief systems, Rokeach brought together three men who each claimed to be Jesus Christ and confronted them with one another's conflicting claims, while encouraging them to interact personally as a support group. Rokeach also attempted to manipulate other aspects of their delusions by inventing messages from imaginary characters. He did not, as he had hoped, provoke any lessening of the patients' delusions, but did document a number of changes in their beliefs.

While initially the three patients quarreled over who was holier and reached the point of physical altercation, they eventually each explained away the other two as being patients with a mental disability in a hospital, or dead and being operated by machines

It did not go well. It was not helped by his continual fucking with them. The stunning part is that this went on for months.

Continuing with the US's fucked up history, we're on to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Plecker and his "one drop" rule.

It's shit like this that's been pretty helpful to me in understanding quite how fucked up the US is in various ways and individuals like this wanker help demonstrate the systemic nature of the fuck-ups quite well.

Vaguely related, the tale of possibly one of the best(meaning worst) ransom plots ever attempted. It's read straight which adds to the hilarity and the actual Bomb its-self is a work of broken genius. Episodes 2/3 have most of the meat but the background and consequences are also worth a listen.

This is still a thing and still great.

Recent good ones include Native Americans in cinema and Icelandic history/necropants.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%A1br%C3%B3k

Quotenecropants, literally "death underpants") are a pair of pants made from the skin of a dead man, which are believed in Icelandic witchcraft to be capable of producing an endless supply of money.

Quotef you want to make your own necropants (literally; nábrók) you have to get permission from a living man to use his skin after his death.

After he has been buried you must dig up his body and flay the skin of the corpse in one piece from the waist down. As soon as you step into the pants they will stick to your own skin. A coin must be stolen from a poor widow and placed in the scrotum along with the magical sign, nábrókarstafur, written on a piece of paper. Consequently the coin will draw money into the scrotum so it will never be empty, as long as the original coin is not removed. To ensure salvation the owner has to convince someone else to take ownership of the pants and step into each leg as soon as he gets out of it. The necropants will thus keep the money-gathering nature for generations.

 :horrormirth:

I'm a lazy fuck and the idea of necropants makes even me want to roll up my sleeves and make some money the old fashioned way, off the sweat of my brow.

Having everything handed to you on a silver plate is far less appealing* enticing when the silver plate is another man's dead scrote which you're compelled to wear all the time.

*Too lazy to make a proper flaying/pealing pun.

:argh!:
You have been issued an RWHN penalty notice. Payment of the fine can be made online or at your local post office. Ignoring this fine will result in a visit from RWHN and all the horror that entails.

Drug threads are addiction forming and act as a gateway drug to harder substances, such as memes and shitposting.  We must ban them, for the children.
