Title: RP still not getting it

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/nov/29/donald-trumps-candidate-for-homeland-security-mich/

Quote
“We certainly hope that Donald Trump would not reward a deceptive pro-amnesty lawmaker like Michael McCaul with a Cabinet position,” said William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC. “That would be very disappointing to all of us that believed his campaign promises to secure our borders and deport millions of illegal immigrants under current U.S. laws.”

Aww, poor baby. It often seems like Trump doesn't really have any specific plans, he's just going from one thing to the next, impulsively making choices and hating Alec Baldwin. However long Trump, or we all, last, it's going to be funny.

So youre all really deadset on this narrative that this guy got into the white house by being an idiot arent you?

The question now is, should I use this gift for good or evil?

How is that even a question?

By pretending there's a Choice i can feel morally superior when acting.

I can also be smug that I'm not going to have to be the one explaining fetching feltching to trump. One of his advisors will soon not be able to say that.

edit for accuracy. Though I'm sure trump will need many basic concepts explained as well, such as why it's a bad idea to commit war crimes".

Idiocy has been working for me for almost a half a century.

There is something liberating about accepting one's own idiocy.

Some of my favourite words at the moment are 'I don't know'. I've got a 12 year old niece who has more knowledge on certain subjects than I do, so when she's explaining something to me I pay attention and actually learn something. It feels good!

Oh no no no you dont get it. Most of the people who self identify as fascists at the moment wont be ready for fascism when it comes. When fascism comes it probably wont even like those self-identified "fascists" very much. The current crop of "fascists" is pretty sad to be honest. When fascism does come, and you will all play a big role in that(Just look at yourselves talk. "Lets stop pretending voters are informed/rational"). THAT is the bandwagon I plan on jumping on. Im only part of the alt-right(which Im sure you think is synonymous with fascism) because I think it will put in me in a better position to jump on that bandwagon. What with taking over the Republican Party and all.

OP-ED CONTRIBUTOR

Why I Will Not Cast My Electoral Vote for Donald Trump

By CHRISTOPHER SUPRUN

DECEMBER 5, 2016

DALLAS — I am a Republican presidential elector, one of the 538 people asked to choose officially the president of the United States. Since the election, people have asked me to change my vote based on policy disagreements with Donald J. Trump. In some cases, they cite the popular vote difference. I do not think presidents-elect should be disqualified for policy disagreements. I do not think they should be disqualified because they won the Electoral College instead of the popular vote. However, now I am asked to cast a vote on Dec. 19 for someone who shows daily he is not qualified for the office.

Fifteen years ago, as a firefighter, I was part of the response to the Sept. 11 attacks against our nation. That attack and this year’s election may seem unrelated, but for me the relationship becomes clearer every day.

George W. Bush is an imperfect man, but he led us through the tragic days following the attacks. His leadership showed that America was a great nation. That was also the last time I remember the nation united. I watch Mr. Trump fail to unite America and drive a wedge between us.

Mr. Trump goes out of his way to attack the cast of “Saturday Night Live” for bias. He tweets day and night, but waited two days to offer sympathy to the Ohio State community after an attack there. He does not encourage civil discourse, but chooses to stoke fear and create outrage.

This is unacceptable. For me, America is that shining city on a hill that Ronald Reagan envisioned. It has problems. It has challenges. These can be met and overcome just as our nation overcame Sept. 11.

The United States was set up as a republic. Alexander Hamilton provided a blueprint for states’ votes. Federalist 68 argued that an Electoral College should determine if candidates are qualified, not engaged in demagogy, and independent from foreign influence. Mr. Trump shows us again and again that he does not meet these standards. Given his own public statements, it isn’t clear how the Electoral College can ignore these issues, and so it should reject him.

I have poured countless hours into serving the party of Lincoln and electing its candidates. I will pour many more into being more faithful to my party than some in its leadership. But I owe no debt to a party. I owe a debt to my children to leave them a nation they can trust.

Mr. Trump lacks the foreign policy experience and demeanor needed to be commander in chief. During the campaign more than 50 Republican former national security officials and foreign policy experts co-signed a letter opposing him. In their words, “he would be a dangerous president.” During the campaign Mr. Trump even said Russia should hack Hillary Clinton’s emails. This encouragement of an illegal act has troubled many members of Congress and troubles me.

Hamilton also reminded us that a president cannot be a demagogue. Mr. Trump urged violence against protesters at his rallies during the campaign. He speaks of retribution against his critics. He has surrounded himself with advisers such as Stephen K. Bannon, who claims to be a Leninist and lauds villains and their thirst for power, including Darth Vader. “Rogue One,” the latest “Star Wars” installment, arrives later this month. I am not taking my children to see it to celebrate evil, but to show them that light can overcome it.

Gen. Michael T. Flynn, Mr. Trump’s pick for national security adviser, has his own checkered past about rules. He installed a secret internet connection in his Pentagon office despite rules to the contrary. Sound familiar?

Finally, Mr. Trump does not understand that the Constitution expressly forbids a president to receive payments or gifts from foreign governments. We have reports that Mr. Trump’s organization has business dealings in Argentina, Bahrain, Taiwan and elsewhere. Mr. Trump could be impeached in his first year given his dismissive responses to financial conflicts of interest. He has played fast and loose with the law for years. He may have violated the Cuban embargo, and there are reports of improprieties involving his foundation and actions he took against minority tenants in New York. Mr. Trump still seems to think that pattern of behavior can continue.

The election of the next president is not yet a done deal. Electors of conscience can still do the right thing for the good of the country. Presidential electors have the legal right and a constitutional duty to vote their conscience. I believe electors should unify behind a Republican alternative, an honorable and qualified man or woman such as Gov. John Kasich of Ohio. I pray my fellow electors will do their job and join with me in discovering who that person should be.

Fifteen years ago, I swore an oath to defend my country and Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. On Dec. 19, I will do it again.

Christopher Suprun lives in Texas and works as a paramedic.

Nah I dont have delusions of making that high, or the desire to deal with the bullshit that comes with it. My main goal right now is making the Republican party more and more eco, so that when real bipartisan fascism comes the Eco will be a given.

1) Holy Hell the butthurt. So far there are total of TWO electors going against trump. But these two are totally going to convince electors from districts that voted overwhelmingly Trump to destroy their political careers trying to get Clinton elected. Also love the name. HAMILTON ELECTORS. Because if theres one thing Hamilton would have approved of, its free trade. Also women holding office.

2) What is your problem with kek friend?

A dying forum for middle aged SMART PEOPLE to talk about how smart they are while the whole world leaves them and their outdated ideologies behind? You know that before I came back I actually tried to get some far-right people to come post here. None of them wanted to waste their time on a site "with an Alexa rank that rivals GeoCities fan pages about 98 Degrees." (actual quote)

As for people taking him seriously Id say you already have. Everytime you guys THINK you have some grand point to make you jump on it instantly, then when youre wrong you immediately drop the argument and start hurling insults and then back out. Of course its because youre too good to engage with my stupid ideas (which you just engaged with). I know your MO. Ive seen you guys spend 100(?) pages arguing with a homeopath. When there is an actual idiot here spouting stupid shit you SMART PEOPLEtm are all over it.

So Im just sitting here waiting for you all to think youve got something SMARTtm to say to me. Then to be wrong. Then comes the insults, the petty mod games(as if thread derails arent a PD tradition) and general butthurt. Tell me again, if Im so wrong, why are you all so anally compromised about me?

I'm not really politically minded at the moment and never really have been. Nor have I been engaging my brain much over the last few years, so my parsing of this might well be off.

Ron, it seems to me that you would have me align with bigots. If I'm understanding you correctly you do not believe that you yourself are a bigot but that this a disenfranchised section of society that you can manipulate under the guise of solidarity into guiding your country's political system into a terminal state. From this terminal state, your particular form of political ideology will then slowly reveal itself, unrecognized but willingly welcomed by the general populace.

From here it gets a bit muddy for me.

It seems to me that this would just let in a more insidious form of bigotry, whatever you feel your intentions for the betterment of your nation might be.

"The end justifies the means."

Heard that joke before.

And yall seem to have no problem telling that joke yourselves. Apparently multiplying foreign wars with massive civilian casualties and economic devastation from free trade are just the price we have to pay for gay marriage. Dont dare vote against those things or youre a bigot! And anyone who claims to care about those things is just a bigot in disguise!

He's become too obsessed with being right and justifying himself without critical thought.

Wherein critical thought is dropping all of my existing beliefs without any counterargument against them, because heck youre all just so darn smart! I mean have you seen some of your one liners? Speaking of. You have yet to actually add anything to any discussion about all of this at all. My top Nigel moments so far have been,

1) Declaring that you dont have to learn anything from losing the election because the evil white men are all going to die off.(And be replaced with conservative christian working class hispanics, a third of which voted for Trump and more of which vote Republican each election. Totally going to work out how you planned.)

2) Not understand how the electoral college works. (Guise we won the popular vote! So what it was because of densely populated urban areas and that we lost ground in important swing states. Popular Vote!)

3) Derailing a thread for I think it was 5 pages based on a misunderstanding and then trying to save face by bragging about your degrees.

I'm not really politically minded at the moment and never really have been. Nor have I been engaging my brain much over the last few years, so my parsing of this might well be off.

Ron, it seems to me that you would have me align with bigots.

Youre all aligned with Bigots too. They just smile and dont use slurs for the people they blow up. Trump is apparently some kind of monster for wanting to deport illegals but, oh wait:
http://www.snopes.com/obama-deported-more-people/

He also wants a database of muslims! Lucky for him Obama already has one. Only its not just muslims, its everyone! Inclusion! Diversity!

Trump is the president America deserves. And by America I dont mean "those stupid hicks that voted for him." I mean you all too. He isnt going to do anything that Obama hasnt done or Hillary Clinton wouldnt have, hes just not going to sugar coat it. Its going to be a Naked Lunch. Everyone will see whats really wriggling on the end of their fork.

Quote
If I'm understanding you correctly you do not believe that you yourself are a bigot but that this a disenfranchised section of society that you can manipulate under the guise of solidarity into guiding your country's political system into a terminal state. From this terminal state, your particular form of political ideology will then slowly reveal itself, unrecognized but willingly welcomed by the general populace.

From here it gets a bit muddy for me.

It seems to me that this would just let in a more insidious form of bigotry, whatever you feel your intentions for the betterment of your nation might be.

I think that when Fascism, which as previously stated will be a bipartisan effort, comes it will mostly follow the will of the silent majority. By spreading Ecological awareness among the right, the primary but not exclusive home of climate denial ect, we can assure an Eco-Consensus and thus Eco-Fascism when fascism does come. And even if Trump does succeed in staving off fascism for who knows how long, an Eco-Consensus is a good deal.

And no I dont think Im or anyone in the alt-right is planting the seeds of future fascism, except indirectly by inspiring thinkpieces about how "Democracy has failed." Fascism is just what late stage democracy turns into. It wont need thinkpieces about fascism or any existing ideas of fascism to come about. It just happens. The original fascists movements didnt share notes, they were all just reacting to the same circumstances. The funny thing is that fascism is so commonly used as a snarl word that theres a good chance that American fascism will sell itself as being anti-fascist, and mean it.

And again, there is no need to guide us into a terminal state. Accelerationists fail to understand that no one could ever intentionally destroy things as well a idiots do accidentally. We are already right on track to fascism. No need to speed up a natural process.

I know engaging with you is a mistake, but I am really sick of this one. This argument implies belief that Trump is not going to increase foreign wars and civilian casualties, as well as not tanking our economy. Dude is already failing at international politics and he hasn't even been sworn in yet. His plans for the economy will tank what's left of the middle class, line the pockets of the super rich, and make poverty a death sentence. Hillary was not good, but there is not one position where Trump was actually better. Not. One. ON TOP of being an absolutely unprepared buffoon with bad policy ideas where he had policy ideas at all, and ON TOP of being so dangerously unstable that we have to worry about him starting wars at 3am because someone hurt his feelings, he ALSO promotes an agenda of gay bashing, racism, xenophobia, and anti-semitism.

It's not like he's some isolationist anti-war messiah come to save us from Neo-Liberalism. He's a shit sandwich and bigotry is just the chunky bits mixed in.

On the plus side, there's so much homophobia kicking around the upcoming administration it's going to be even funnier when they're caught with rent boys etc.

You're not going to get to February before you've got at least 2 upstanding Christian defenders of traditional marriage publicly apologising for getting caught buggering boys and explaining how they're totally NOT GAY. There will probably be a huge pray the gay away rally by mid-march.

And Hillary Clinton thought that the anti-fracking movement was a Russian conspiracy. Climate Change denial, if not in words in practice, is a bipartisan consensus.

You think Trump is anti-war?

He openly campaigned on abandoning Regime change. Hes said some really INFLAMATORY, SHOCKING, things about fighting ISIS but you all forgave Obama for continuing the wars he inherited so Ill give him a pass on that.

I know engaging with you is a mistake, but I am really sick of this one. This argument implies belief that Trump is not going to increase foreign wars and civilian casualties,

Hes openly campaigned on a platform of decreasing foreign wars. Against someone who not only had already played a role in increasing foreign wars but planned on doing it more with Syria. Hes probably not going to cut down on Civilian Casualties in our existing wars but again, this is a bipartisan consensus it only bothers you when he does it because he isnt POLITE about it.

How? Theres a link in this thread that he planned that Taiwan call for months. Of course he pissed off China. If he honestly plans on cracking down on free trade then hes already going to make enemies with them. Thats why I consider the Taiwan call a good thing, it along with him killing the TPP in the water:

signal that hes serious about killing free trade.

EXCEPT:

Now if you all werent too holy to read Wikileaks, as most of America wasnt, you would have known this. Its what created this little gem:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/23/opinion/campaign-stops/why-hillary-clinton-needs-to-be-two-faced.html

Trump may turn out to be full of shit on his opposition to Regime Change and Free Trade(On the Free Trade at least he seems to be making token efforts to keep his word). It is, absolutely insane, to expect people to vote for someone who is radically pro-free trade, against someone who does nothing but rail against it, because of "bigotry."

"I know youre barely making it as it is but you need to vote for the person who has already tanked the economy with NAFTA and who is planning on tanking it more with the TPP over the person who promises to end free trade. Because BIGOTRY."

"You should vote against your own survival because gay marriage."

The lesson you need to learn is that people, this is not just white people, care more about feeding their families than any of your social justice pet causes. This doesnt mean that you have to abandon those causes, but that fact that so many on the left are construing any attempt to reach out to the working class as just this is interesting. It means that you have to stop being the party of not being able to feed your family.

But heres the thing. By and large you all(the left not PD) dont want to. The reason is simple. You are not harmed by the economic policies that destroyed the working class. You by and large benefited from them. Of course, thats obviously not why you support them. Its just a coincidence that free trade agreements that gut manufacturing and other labor intensive jobs while flooding money into capital intensive labor(things you need a degree to do) and investment(Check out my startup. Its instagram but for dick pics) are supported by the same people who benefit from these economic changes. People who then explain to the same people who have been screwed by these policies that they are evil bigoted racist homophobes for daring to vote against these policies. Then privately fantasize about those people just dying off already(Nigel shout out!).

Forget your goddamned gypsum, and, if he has a problem with that, forget Ed Burke, too. The white American underclass is in thrall to a vicious, selfish culture whose main products are misery and used heroin needles

Obviously the reason these people didnt vote for you is because they hate your freedoms.

And yes. It is generally a mistake to engage with someone who actually knows what theyre talking about when you do not. The wikileaks on the TPP were right there for you to read. But no, youre a SMART PERSONtm, why would you need to seek new information on a topic you already know everything about?

I was not the only one who tried to counter your hysteria with an alternate view / interpretation but it quickly became obvious that you were immune to any reasoned arguments that were put forward. The majority of your material comes from youtube, so it has most likely already been contaminated by partisan bullshit before you pass it on. Its like the worlds worst game of chinese whispers. OK just for clarity. I am speaking for myself but I suspect my position isn't too far from what passes for a norm around here:
Yes the Clinton's have connections with Epstein, Bill and Epstein are friends. And yes Bill rode his private jet. Nobody is disputing that. However you are extrapolating from that that they are THEREFORE DEFINITELY and INDISPUTABLY involved in Epstein's child abuse. However only one alleged victim of Bill Clinton on Orgy Island has turned up and it is provable that he was not present in the timeframe of the allegations. Does it look potentially dodgy? yes, and it certainly should be investigated if there is well grounded evidence, but 1[ Bill was not standing for President and 2] This is Billy the Willy Clinton, does it not strike you as odd that there in not one potential victim being touted by the gutter press, nor was even one found by the Trump camp who really scraped the bottom of the barrel using Bill's checkered past to tarnish Hillary's potential future?

and Yes as I have already explained to you in some detail Hillary did go out of her way to get someone off of human trafficking charges in Haiti after they kidnapped 33 kids. Because that was part of her job. Somebody has to protect stupid American religious nuts who think that they know best because Gawd is on their side [Gawd is American you know] and decide that it is a perfectly valid idea to go steal cute little kids from their families by telling them that they are going to be "cared for" without explaining that they are signing away their offspring to be rehomed like litters of sweet puppies with good Christian people in Amurrica. It was Hillary's job; she was the name in the frame, she was the responsible US representative on the spot whose job it was to extricate these idiot Americans from the shit they had gotten themselves into.

And just in case you haven't got the message yet YES I READ THE WIKILEAKS STUFF, ok. It is what it is. It is a bunch of someone's private emails. I read them critically. And let me put this as clearly and as kindly as I can. That is what educated people do. It is nothing special, it is not rocket science or brain surgery but it is what the literate classes do. We spend years in universities and colleges reading. In the UK that is the correct terminology for studying for a degree. For example I read Behavioural Sciences. And we don't just read to memorise what we are given. The educated reader does not passively consume what is given to them. They read, they discuss, they critique, they challenge established wisdom. They write lots of papers in which they compare and contrast competing ideas, and they don't get good marks if they can't give a nuanced view of the things they have read and haven't looked at both sides of an argument. At the end of the process they are able to read, assimilate, and evaluate materials. You could try it. Just try looking at both sides of the argument before you make an evaluation.

So how many issues are there overall?

I'm glad we're still just talking about odd policy positions. The real long term problem I see are the fuckwits he surrounds himself with in the near and mid future. It's not like there's a single cabinet pick announced yet that isn't wildly regressive and ill suited. This does not bode well for future choices.

It was Hillary's job; she was the name in the frame, she was the responsible US representative on the spot whose job it was to extricate these idiot Americans from the shit they had gotten themselves into.

And you just completely ignored the connections these missionaries had to human trafficking that I linked. And if you had actually read the wikileaks stuff as you just spent a paragraph explaining, you would know that Clinton had ties to this organization predating the Haitian kidnapping case.

Pssssshhhhhht read both sides? That's like, extra reading, brah.

And like, who needs to actually read Wikileaks' leaked information when you can just read about it on Zerohedge?

We have reached peak liberalism. Someone who didnt read wikileaks during the election getting high and mighty because the people who actually cared about wikileaks didnt read wikileaks. Also love the dig at ZeroHedge, a blog that accurately called the Election for Trump.

Well? How's the Spirit treating Yah fool?

Its not my job to educate you.

NAFTA is a hugely complex area which has serious pros and cons but which isn't going to be improved by Trump's cackhanded bloviating;

Pros and Cons I have already outlined. Pros: Rich people get richer and throw scraps to the aspirational 14%. Cons: Poverty. Destruction of Communities. Crystal Meth.

And Trumps hard stance against free trade doesnt count, because he talks too much?

Soo.... I guess you're just not actually concerned about the remarkable hypocrisy.

I've already educated myself  8). That was just me seeing if you'd choose to dodge again. You did. Twice.

Your spirit is weak
So I tweak and poke
You're not in on the joke
But the subject of it
I see a plump pig
In a dark kuk sauce
Twisting round a spit
Praising the cook's work
Even as the fat runs out
And feeds his smoky doom

At least Nihil is smart enough to keep his trap shut and clean up after himself. You on the other hand are a tool, a fool, truly truly truly vex'd, and devoid of internal context. That is your choices made manifest and a big old black Kuk to pay up to.

The least you could do is admit that you and Abraham's God are through.

Your Brother Nihil may be rather vile, but at least HE's honest and knows how to play both you and the Game quite well, so far as the signs can tell.

Of course your inability to read them is not MY problem.
I just need a bit more popcorn.

So you dont think the Clintons have any connections to Epstein? You dont think that Bill Clinton ever rode on Epsteins private jet? You dont think Clinton went out of her way to get someone off of human trafficking charges in Haiti after they kidnapped 33 kids?

I can go back in the thread and dig up the sources for any of these. Of course one of them involves wikileaks which are apparently fake now.

PS Wikileaks are not fake but they really don't say what you think they do.

This is good stuff, but it's wasted on RP. You literally might as well be talking to a seagull.

No, please, do detail your objection to snopes. Which bastion of objectivity dislikes them? Zero hedge?

Exactly what I said. Theyre a truth priesthood that people use instead of doing actual research. Literally from a guy who just wrote me a lecture about actually reading source materials and critical thinking "have you considered checking snopes." Nothing Ive posted is factually wrong and he knows this which is why he has yet to even try to prove this. Instead hes just pretending his refusal to draw very basic straightforward conclusions from the info is being a "critical thinker"(reading snopes also makes you a critical thinker).

If this was about anyone who was not sainted none of you would be pretending this is anything but being obtuse. Consider, Im willing to bet none of you doubt the Cosby allegations, which are based on even less evidence than this. Try to imagine someone coming into a thread and defending Cosby with these same arguments(which by the way also apply to the Cosby case.)

Yes Cosby has multiple allegations spanning 50 years. And yes Cosby admitted to getting Qualudes for the women he wanted to have sex with. Nobody is disputing that. However you are extrapolating from that that he is THEREFORE DEFINITELY and INDISPUTABLY a rapist. BTW I went to college and you should read snopes.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/crime/billcosby.asp

The priesthood has spoken. We may never know.

If he really is willing to look at all the evidence(he didnt by the way, he left out New Life's long existing ties to both the Clintons and ties to the human trafficking industry) and come to the conclusion that there is nothing to see here, shit thats just like his opinion man. Its just good to know that the main lesson SMART PEOPLEtm have learned post-Savile/Yewtree is that when powerful people are accused of bad things, multiple times, and hang out with people convicted of bad things on their private island dedicated to bad things we shouldnt jump to conclusions, and we should check snopes.

But obviously such nuanced thinking is lost on me.

I'll talk to you Ron. I've got nothing to contribute on the subject of politics or political systems but there are plenty of other things to talk about.

How's the weather where you are? What's the tastiest thing you've eaten this week? Have you ever been to see an Opera? When was the last time you climbed a tree? Moore or Connery? Favourite movie of 2016? of all time??? I've heard a rumour that Tupac and Kurt are both still alive and are operating a small jet-ski hire business on an undisclosed Caribbean island. Can you confirm or deny this??? What's your favourite accompaniment to ice cream? Chemistry or Physics? Have you seen my passport? My brother is a grown man but only has size 5 feet, is this something I should mock him for? Would you know of a good method for removing foot stink from trainers? Is this your card? What the hell is behind the green door? Also, again, have you seen my friggin' passport? A few months ago I moved it from it's usual place to somewhere 'safer'. Unfortunately it's new location is so safe that even I don't know where it is. Your help in this matter would be appreciated.

Also also, I don't want to seem like I'm alienating anyone so these questions are open to the rest of the forum as well.

Again, your help would be appreciated, especially with regards to the passport. I mean, it's definitely somewhere in this room but I don't really fancy spending a day emptying all the shelves, cupboards and boxes and looking through every book to try and find that elusive bastard.

Of course not. He got into the White House through a combination of abusing our electoral system and tampering on his behalf by Vladimir Putin.

This is gold."He abused the electoral system by winning more electoral votes." The whole point of the electoral system, and THE SENATE(which none of you get made about despite running on the exact same principle) is to keep densely populated states from pushing around the mores sparsely populated ones. Trump won by doing exactly what president Obama did. He actually campaigned in these less populated more backwater areas that had electoral votes he needed. But I guess when Densely populated Urban areas dont decide the election that means the system was "abused."

Hey and you know what all the people pushing "Putin did Trump" have in common? They all pushed Yellowcake Uranium and Saddam did 9/11. Hows that for "fake news."

Again, you have nothing at all to learn from this defeat. You did no thing wrong, even though you lost. It was all that big meanie Putin with his army of hackers on steroids, and that stupid electoral college which has never been a factor in any election ever before this one.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-38282533

Quote
On Friday, CIA officials told US media they had concluded that Russians hackers were trying to help Mr Trump.

Quote
Mr Trump said it might have been Russia but it was impossible to know.
"They have no idea if it's Russia or China or somebody sitting in a bed some place," he said.

Yes, they do donny. It's called research.

Quote
Senior Republicans have now joined Democrats in calling for a full investigation.
Republican Senator John McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said in a joint statement on Sunday with top Democrats that the CIA's report "should alarm every American".

Because this shit can swing both ways, very easily.

Quote
Mr Trump also said in the interview he did not need daily intelligence briefings.
"I'm a smart person, I don't need to be told the same thing in the same way for eight years."

 :lulz:

Quote
Elsewhere in the interview, he said:
"no one really knows" if climate change is real and a decision on the Paris treaty will come quickly

Or

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-38273933

Quote
US intelligence agencies believe Russia acted covertly to boost Donald Trump in the election race, US officials have told leading newspapers.
A report in the New York Times says the agencies had "high confidence" about Russian involvement in hacking.
A CIA assessment reported by the Washington Post made similar findings.

Sigh.

So Snopes is wrong because it's not called crosby guilty prior to trial and is asking for substantiated evidence to back up the extraordinary claims relating to the clintons?

I have to give you guys credit. You always find very creative misreadings. My point was that "Read Snopes" guys argument could just as easily be applied to Cosby. Its just being obtuse for the sake of being obtuse. "Yes we have this long list of evidence for what you are claiming(excludes a large portion of the evidence) but that doesnt INFALLIBLY PROVE what you claim." Its setting a ridiculous standard of evidence that none of you would ever apply in any other context.

And since I know there are a lot of feminists on this board, why does "Listen and Believe" not apply to Bill Clinton?

This is, absolutely fascinating. In a post Saddam has WMDs, Gary Webb is fake news world suddenly the CIA is a trustworthy source. Not just that, we are suddenly just taking them at their word. Is there a shred of actual evidence to these claims?

From your own source:
Quote
Quoting an unnamed "senior US official", the Washington Post (https://consortiumnews.com/2014/10/18/wposts-slimy-assault-on-gary-webb/) said "intelligence agencies" had "identified individuals with connections to the Russian government who provided WikiLeaks with thousands of hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and others, including Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman".

So in other words. I know a guy who knows a guy who says Russia did it. Werent you all lecturing me about critical thinking just a page back?

Because evidence. Travelling on a plane with a friend is not equivalent to an admission of using date rape drugs. Standards of evidence apply to what would get you prosecuted and found guilty in law.
And just a quick fyi, i am not a guy, I am an elderly radical feminist academic. A discordian academic - so I'm not comfortable with Sarkeesian's "Listen and Believe". It seems to me that "Trust but Verify" is a much superior position to adopt.

also - I wasn't suggesting that you should mindlessly accept what Snopes or any other source, is telling you but look at the way that construct arguments to reach conclusions. These conclusions are often nuanced not always true or false but many times something inbetween.

Cosby says that the drugs were taken consensually, to get high. Not to date rape. Him owning date rape drugs does not prove he is a date rapist. So do you think he did it?

And its more than traveling in a plane with a man convicted of owning sex slaves. Consider what it means that he is, in your own words, friends with someone like that. Its traveling in a plane wtih a convicted owner of sex slaves to his orgy island. Combined with years of accusations including one of Epsteins victims. Combined with Hillary Clinton having long existing ties to an organization which was later caught kidnapping children(you insist this was an innocent misunderstanding) which she then went out of her way to bail out and which was defended in court by a man with undisputed connections to the human trafficking industry.

And again. By your standard of evidence Cosby is innocent. All he has are accusations and owning of a drug with completely nonrapey recreational uses.

Also you were all totally skeptical of the Cosby allegations just like you are of Clinton:

At this rate, we should be into Cosby territory by the end of the week. And that really isn't funny or unlikely.

And a very on the nose observation by Nigel:

On a related note, I am finding it fascinating how in the Atheist and Skeptic community, allegations of sexual misconduct by their leaders generates a completely different reaction than allegations of sexual misconduct by religious leaders.

When young men come forward and say that a priest molested them when they were children and that the Church did nothing, that is substantial evidence. When young women come forward and say that a prominent member of the Atheist/Skeptic community molested them when they were drunk and that the convention organizers did nothing, that is hearsay and not enough evidence to reasonably influence whether or not we attend his talk on morality.

Actual quote:

Quote
I'm asking if you have any proof that this actually happened? Michael Shermer been accused of being a rapist on many occasions. That doesn't mean Michael Shermer is actually a rapist.

What I'm saying is that this is a common accusation of something. The links that were posted are also not evidence of anything except people making accusations without evidence.

It's not a fact, and what you all are doing is not educating, it‘s spreading further misinformation. If you have any actual evidence (keeping in mind that wild accusations are not evidence) then I will be happy to change my position.

It's my suspicion that A. these double standards are necessary to protect their sense of superiority and reduce their cognitive dissonance arising from their pure and precious leaders doing the same vile things they've been touting as the sole domain of the religious,

Excuse me, let me revise that then:

I'll give you that the Cosby case certainly isn't proven, I'll give you that (though it doesn't look good)

A world where the person who gets the most votes wins the election is

Just realized Ive had this convo like 4 times.

Two things:

1) Would this reform extend to the senate as well? Because its the same principle and few people ever bitch about it.

2) This would have been no guarantee against a Trump victory this year and if it ever happens would not guarantee a lack of future victories. As he himself explained, he built his campaign around scoring electoral votes because thats what it takes to win. If the election was based on the popular vote he would have altered his strategy for that.

Also, think about this for a moment. California and New York being the big contendors seems nice, but the other two heavy weights would be Texas and Florida. I know you think Trump is bad, but do you really really want every Republican candidate from this point on basing his platform on winning the Texan vote out of necessity?

Which brings us to the point of the EC. America isnt a homogeneous nation, it has a lot of different interests and cultures. Without the EC (and the Senate) America would be run by Texas, Florida, New York and California with the rest of us all just along for the ride. Do you honestly want this? Just because Clinton won in some alternate reality what if fanfiction where Article II vanished on November 7th?

No child porn's not funny, but c'mon, look at that guy's face, and the article....and whatever point that FB user is trying to make

I'll let you get back to regularly scheduled programming. The internet is for laughs for me today, and people here are expressing my dislike of Trump better than I have a mind to at the moment.

And sure, I spoke to a few people that supported Trump because they believed that he'd fix the economy and/or was a D.C. "outsider" and would hire "the best" people to help him to do the job. And for a brief moment I considered perhaps so, despite his general repugnance, maybe at worst it'd be some sort of bizarre status quo. But with every new appointment, it seems like he is going out of his way to pick the worst person for the job. It's like assembling a cabinet of specialized super villains. A bit of hyperbole, maybe, but still....

BTW, they finally released the evidence that the DNC hack was a Russian intelligence operation.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/13/us/politics/russia-hack-election-dnc.html?_r=1

Quote
Guccifer 2.0 borrowed the moniker of an earlier hacker, a Romanian who called himself Guccifer and was jailed for breaking into the personal computers of former President George W. Bush, former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell and other notables. This new attacker seemed intent on showing that the D.N.C.’s cyberexperts at CrowdStrike were wrong to blame Russia. Guccifer 2.0 called himself a “lone hacker” and mocked CrowdStrike for calling the attackers “sophisticated.”

But online investigators quickly undercut his story. On a whim, Lorenzo Franceschi-Bicchierai, a writer for Motherboard, the tech and culture site of Vice, tried to contact Guccifer 2.0 by direct message on Twitter.

“Surprisingly, he answered right away,” Mr. Franceschi-Bicchierai said. But whoever was on the other end seemed to be mocking him. “I asked him why he did it, and he said he wanted to expose the Illuminati. He called himself a Gucci lover. And he said he was Romanian.”

That gave Mr. Franceschi-Bicchierai an idea. Using Google Translate, he sent the purported hacker some questions in Romanian. The answers came back in Romanian. But when he was offline, Mr. Franceschi-Bicchierai checked with a couple of native speakers, who told him Guccifer 2.0 had apparently been using Google Translate as well — and was clearly not the Romanian he claimed to be.

Cyberresearchers found other clues pointing to Russia. Microsoft Word documents posted by Guccifer 2.0 had been edited by someone calling himself, in Russian, Felix Edmundovich — an obvious nom de guerre honoring the founder of the Soviet secret police, Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky. Bad links in the texts were marked by warnings in Russian, generated by what was clearly a Russian-language version of Word.

When Mr. Franceschi-Bicchierai managed to engage Guccifer 2.0 over a period of weeks, he found that his interlocutor’s tone and manner changed. “At first he was careless and colloquial. Weeks later, he was curt and more calculating,” he said. “It seemed like a group of people, and a very sloppy attempt to cover up.”

Computer experts drew the same conclusion about DCLeaks.com, a site that sprang up in June, claiming to be the work of “hacktivists” but posting more stolen documents. It, too, seemed to be a clumsy front for the same Russians who had stolen the documents. Notably, the website was registered in April, suggesting that the Russian hacking team planned well in advance to make public what it stole.

Thats it. Someone who knew Russian and had a Russian version of Word edited some documents Guccifer 2 posted. Case closed.

This was after SHE threatened a war with Russia. He didnt say he was going to nuke us for not voting Trump, he told his aides to prepare for a potential war if the person who said she was ok with starting a war was elected and it made its way to the press.

Hillary Clinton: “You’ve seen the reports. Russia’s hacked into a lot of things, China’s hacked into a lot of things. Russia even hacked into the Democratic National Committee. Maybe even some state election systems? So we gotta step up our game. Make sure we are well defended and make sure we are able to take the fight to those who go after us. As president I will make it clear that the United States will treat cyber attacks just like any other attack. We will be ready with serious political, economic and military responses.

Why does anyone feel the need to defend either position? Assume both cases. Come up with contingencies for both. Conduct an investigation into what happened.

Why wouldn't Russia want Trump to win?

What is the CIA's motive for publicly naming Russia?

Why does anyone feel the need to defend either position? Assume both cases. Come up with contingencies for both. Conduct an investigation into what happened.

Why wouldn't Russia want Trump to win?

What is the CIA's motive for publicly naming Russia?

I think these questions need to be answered before meaningful discussion can take place.

Nothing happening at the "political" level is a means to understand what has happened.

To understand you must entertain the notion that the forces of Cramulus have in fact managed to regain their hold on the space-time continuum.

Remember that "life" arises from Cramulus interacting with matter, and that the idea of spontaneous generation without Cramulus is a fallacy intended to keep you asleep.

He's kind of a shit.
There's memetic evidence of this.
