Having a small argument on FB regarding prison conditions and Arpaio, with someone I recently met.
After a little back-and-forth, she revealed that doesn't think cruel treatment of the worst offenders, including whipping and torture (my suggestions), are wrong.
I mean...what can I say at this point?

Any advice on continuing to be your weird self when other people judge you negatively for it?
I mean, I tell myself I don't give a shit what they think, and I believe it, but at the end of the day my behavior has been pretty restrained around the people who get "weirded out" by the Different.
(Thinking in particular of friends/roomies/neighbors whom I see every day, and the feeling of a need not to alienate them.
To paraphrase a neighbor... "Your Facebook's pretty weird...I mean, if that was the first place I knew you from, I'm not sure I'd have been your friend." Uh huh, and turns out my brain is a few levels stranger than my Facebook. But my brain's, you know, on the inside, so far.)
Maybe just paying more and closer attention to my motivations for my actions, and simply cut off the what-will-the-neighbors-think motivated shit?
I wonder if anyone has a good daily practice for this sort of thing?

Roger, I think I know why you attract all the weirdos.
There's the Earth's magnetic field. Comes out at the south end, goes in at the north end, roughly speaking.
Then there's the Luck field. Comes out in Peru and goes in at Dobbstown.
But I think there's another field, a Weird field. And, methinks, it comes out somewhere in the Indian Ocean, and goes in right down atop your big ol'bald flocculent head.
Here's hoping a future boss or associate of mine creates half as much a disturbance in the Weird as you.

Anyone who claims they don't is claiming to be a perfect person, which is something I don't believe is possible, and claiming to be a perfect person seems like a great big enormous warning sign of someone with some kind of massive delusional personality disorder.
This is a great post and I am saving it for posterity.

It seems like RWHN is talking about an ally as a promoter of a cause in practical/logistical terms ("the muscle of the operation"), whereas Garbo is talking about an ally as a person who truly understands the cause, and subsequently works to improve themselves and their behavior based on that understanding.
Both are people working to forward the cause, but each definition of ally has different conditions.
