Have you ever driven down one of THOSE streets.  Everyone lives near or in a city or town that has one.  It's that street you turn onto, and you start driving, and you look around, and you see it.  Utter despair.  No, really, plain, 100%, made in the good ol U.S.A. despair.  Buildings that haven't been occupied since 1986, people sitting on benches staring at their cigarrette, the one guy in a shirt and tie who has obviously turned down the wrong corner, and the Christian Mission.  Yep, it's the American Dream alive and well.  Yes, that was sarcasm.  And not nearly biting enough.

Do you even realize how bad things are here?  We're talking about poor "backwards" folks overseas blowing themselves up.  Have you seen the guy on the corner who is slowly killing himself swilling whiskey because he can't afford to do anything else?  No one will hire him.  No one will look at him.  Maybe he brought it on himself, maybe he got laid off, maybe he's not alone in his head.  But who's trying to do anything about it?  Really, who do you think is actually, actively trying to do anything about it?  That's right pal.  Nobody.

The Salvation Army, Goodwill, Missions, Shelters, it's all window dressing.  We've abandoned so many people here in the U.S. it's not even funny.  They've been written off and thrown out like stale bread.  The American Dream wasn't for them.  It was never intended to be.  Because they don't have the T.V. telling them so.  They are just collateral damage which seems perfectly acceptable the the American Government.  They are like the houses that must be plowed over to buiild that bypass.  Just worthless detritus to be paved over while constructing The American Way.  The body count grows every day.  This is a war that never ends.  The Machine will slowly, but surely, consume more and more.

But, the good little Americans shouldn't worry about it.  Just keep watching your 'Reality' TV and ignore the Real Reality that is most likely right outside your door as we speak.  And next time you drive down THAT street you might want to scope out a nice patch of pavement.  Because don't be so sure that you won't be right there with them.

That 3rd paragraph, wow.
This. Also, we have entire sections of the city like that here. Houses falling down, boarded up, with weeds a foot high in the front yard. A sense of despair heavy in the air like fog from hell.
Someday I'll get out there with a camera.
"I dispose of obsolete meat machines.  Not because I hate them (I do) and not because they deserve it (they do), but because they are in the way and those older ones don't meet emissions codes.  They emit too much.  You don't like them and I don't like them, so spare me the hysteria."

Phox

I can neither laugh nor cry, nor even put words to how this makes me feel.

The Wizard

So yeah. This is pretty much the town I live in.
Insanity we trust.

Also, please to note, I wrote this shit BEFORE the economic collapse.  You should see this shit today.  :horrormirth:

I'm pretty sure LMNO set this one to music.

It's on one of the POEECasts, I believe.

AFK

Bump.  This was a pretty good one.  I wish I still had the inspiration and motivation to write shit like this.

Seven billion people on the planet now.  Seven thousand-million, as the Brits like to say. We are all a renewable resource. What makes you so special? We can make another one just like you. We have too many of  you already. We have to stop new people from coming in. We have all the good stuff here. We have manicured front lawns, power-blown free of desiccated leaves by Mexican immigrants. We have strawberries in Publix for two-fifty a pint, picked by illegal immigrant women with babies deformed from pesticide exposure. We are in a state of emergency. We can't afford to leave no man behind. If you can't pull your own weight, then fuck you. Progress is a lie we tell ourselves to shield us from the horrors of the future. People have been living and dying on the streets for as long as there have been streets. We have all, from the oldest to the youngest among us, grown up and lived in times where people have left others to die to save their own asses, or to save their own pensions, or slice of the pie. Seven billion people. And growing. So what if we lose one or two? So what if that guy is sad and drunk and sleeps huddled on a park bench specifically designed to deter laying down with a strategic placement of perpendicular boards? There are seven million, no sorry, Seven Billion more to take his place in the human struggle for...what? Humanity? Decency? Love? Fuck that guy. Let him rot in the name of Justice For All!

"I'm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk," Charles Wick said. "It was very complicated."

Oh, look, somebody's having bowel control issues. Cleanup on aisle 5!

If he's gonna have some kind of nervous breakdown and bump every thread he started in 2006, he's probably gonna have to deal with a snarky comment or two from the people he's deliberated baited and alienated over the last year. :)
