~phew~ makes it all better now. also not convinced that "Love" is Dr. Mack. PHD's can usually spell yeah, and don't speak in text phone talk... Not all PhD's write perfect English. That's what editors are for.

have been looking at some of this marketing mixed with memetics stuff he has mentioned, checking out some of the people he has named and things he has linked to. isn't this another marketers selling a career in how to market marketing ponzi scheme? with magic RAW ideas and memetics being used as the hook? i just see a lot of marketing for "become an Internet marketer"
maybe he would start a thread to explain it, it is a interesting use of the ideas and i may be missing something....

I'd say they're the same, if only because Ben Mack's Twitter has had a few comments for the thread. I followed him shortly after he posted here. He puts a lot out about good energy and seems to be a genuinely happy, if admittedly temperamental, individual.
I don't necessarily agree with taking off, but I will say that if you're going to comment knowing that the author is reading it, you could be polite about it. Criticism is great, but the comment that sent him over the edge was pretty hostile. That said, I'm not sure if it was hostile enough to elicit such a response. His reaction seems to me like he poked around on the forums outside of this thread and wasn't a fan of what he saw.
It's strange, with Howard Campbell being such a decidedly hostile character and presumably the voice of Ben Mack, Mack himself seems like a bit of a hippie. I'm curious to know if his views have changed since writing the book or if something else is the cause of that dissonance. And I think the best way to find out is to try and keep this discussion constructive in spite of what's happened so far, if anyone else shares my interest in seeing it continue.

i think is that it is Ben mack His reaction seems to me like he poked around on the forums outside of this thread and wasn't a fan of what he saw. / my guess is this.. also the book appears to be semi autobiographical so the question about motives (re breakdowns ) may have been seen as to personal and yes i would like to see it continue too, and expand into his other interests...

I'm starting to understand why the "Death of the Author" technique is so popular among literary critics.

Yes, that's certainly one way to go about critiquing an artistic work. However, PWC is very much an autobiographical work, and therefore the author is a important part of that analysis. The motivations of the author mirror the motivations of the protagonist (?) in this case, at least somewhat. I wish Ben Mack had answered about the ending. Anyway, Ben Mack PhD, you seem like you have some difficult issues you have to work through in your life. I hope you are well.

I can see how it could be read that way though. As for being polite, we're not usually polite when critiquing our own stuff, so why should I kiss up to a +FAME carrier? PWC is very much an autobiographical work, wow. really? then I guess it must have looked like a personal attack from me. I usually think things marked 'fiction' are. my bad I guess.

well guys, i totally enjoyed the beginning, lost the plot in the middle, and thought the end sucked massive amounts of balls.
massive.
whats this guys motivation breaking people down and turning them into suicidal veggies?
why?
I did like the way that all the 'facts' the main guy was spouting were all totally bollocks, however in parts the writing was muddled, the narrative confused and the characters unbelievable.
Too many damn fnords also.
However, I think that this would be quite a good book to lead people onto the ideas of discord, and the way it was presented as an audio transcription was inventive. Not specifically mentioning Eris or Discordia was quite nifty too.
All in all, this unit gives it a 5/10.
I've read worse. I've read better.
If we want to treat +FAME and general forum users the same, maybe the 50 post suggestion would be in order?

Wow, Hi Ben! Overall, I really enjoyed your book, will reccommend it to others. There are hostile energies at this forum, but please understand that it is part of our questing / eclectic nature. I expect there is far greater curiosity than hostility here. I am curious - has the autobiographical nature of the book caused you many hangups in life / employment? I imagine that you don't always want to present yourself as HC the meme warrior. In my reading, I had assumed HC's motivation for "destroying" fink is that fink is one of the stewards of the status quo. Fink is one of the people whose job it is to label others as "crazy" and therefore outside of the system (and unable to affect it). Richard Wilson was one of HC's disciples - Campbell was just defending his decentralized meme network. When Bucky references "destroying" that chick, he feels he has a good reason for doing it. Mack knows that this reason does not sound good when explained within the status quo, hence Fink's reaction to it.

Whoever has started importing drama from this thread to twitter (Broken AI is that you) please don't. Ben emailed me, I won't go into it but I would like the nasty comments to at least remain contained to this thread, please, do it for me.

I, for one, was really excited to have a conversation with the author.
Apparently he's been properly scared off. I confess to being pretty frustrated with this.
