{"id":44,"date":"2008-03-19T04:39:08","date_gmt":"2008-03-19T12:39:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.principiadiscordia.com\/blog\/rwhn\/what-a-card\/"},"modified":"2008-03-19T04:40:20","modified_gmt":"2008-03-19T12:40:20","slug":"what-a-card","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.principiadiscordia.com\/blog\/index.php\/2008\/03\/19\/what-a-card\/","title":{"rendered":"What a Card."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was at a conference the other day that focused on problem gambling in kids and old folks.\u00c2\u00a0 I was struck when the instructor laid out the definition of gambling for us:<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<em>Gambling:\u00c2\u00a0 The Idea of Being Able to Determine the Outcome of Random Events.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As he went on to talk about some thoroughly uninteresting material, that sentence became lodged in my noggin.\u00c2\u00a0 And kind of brought home how really all of this is a Gamble.\u00c2\u00a0 It seems that human kind is on this endless strive to be able to harness unpredictability.\u00c2\u00a0 Many of our kind are so scared to death of not being able to know what is going to happen next.\u00c2\u00a0 We place such high esteem in those we think have the ability to peer into the winds of the unknown and pull out the future occurrences.\u00c2\u00a0 Weathermen, economists, and others of their ilk.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0What would happen if mankind could stop looking for what&#8217;s next?\u00c2\u00a0 Do you think we would finally be able to come to some sort of peace?\u00c2\u00a0 Or would the nagging notion of not knowing come back to haunt?\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I guess maybe we&#8217;re just stuck in this never-ending crap shoot.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was at a conference the other day that focused on problem gambling in kids and old folks.\u00c2\u00a0 I was struck when the instructor laid out the definition of gambling for us: \u00c2\u00a0Gambling:\u00c2\u00a0 The Idea of Being Able to Determine the Outcome of Random Events.
