There has been much talk regarding a bunch of posters piling on another, and how this is wrong.

I think this opinion is bullshit.  On any board, especially one as vocal and opinionated as this one, when a poster has something to say, they will say it.

So, when it turns out that only one poster believes that puppies should be eaten alive, and 20 believe that they should be grilled first, you will get a post ratio of 1:20.

This is not ,Äúpiling on,Äù, this is ,Äúan unpopular opinion,Äù.

Do y,Äôall really think that the 20 pro-grilling people will elect a spokesman to debate the puppy eating issue one-on-one?

Hell no.  Each person will give their viewpoint.  Especially since even if they all agree that puppies should be grilled, each one will have a different opinion of how they should be grilled.

So enough with the accusations of ,Äúpiling on,Äù.  A person with an unpopular belief should know that it is, and be prepared to defend themselves.

Yeah, that too.

I took my lumps and I stuck around.  I think 95% of noobs who just picked up the PD or Illuminatus or whatever, as soon as they find some sort of on-line community, get all excited and in a pre-conceived notion of "fitting in" come in with ther 23 Guns a-blazin.  I know I did.

It's good really.  The noobs need to be knocked down by the older tigers (yes pun is intended) otherwise you may lose yourself in a Golden Shower of Discordian Superficiality.  It's that "Hey, snap-out-of-it" Bitch Slap that can really be quite educational if the noob is open to it and takes it for what it is.

In my experience in these parts, the noobs that have been "chased out" or "piled upon" were the right ones.  (e.g. Merlin of Chaos)  But they didn't have to leave.  They did.  That's a statement of character as far as I'm concerned.

Well, there's a reason we have a 50-post suggestion these days.

We give 'em 50 posts to get it out of their systems, to get a feel for how things happen over here.

After that, their eyes should be open, and they should be ready for anything.

And it's usually not a "let's get 'em" mentality, its just that everyone has an asshole opinion.

BADGE OF HONOR

The Jerk On Bike rolled his eyes and tossed the waffle back over his shoulder--before it struck the ground, a stout, disconcertingly monkey-like dog sprang into the air and snatched it, and began to masticate it--literally--for the sound it made was like a homonculus squatting on the floor muttering "masticate masticate masticate".

*has never complained*  Esp since I piss people off by just showing the fuck up.

However...it's not that easy.  I think you have to have bottom to begin with.  The average target age of this movement doesn't allow for much bottom, in the end.

But yes, the nipples do toughen up.

If I think someones wrong, I'll say it to them, 50 posts or not. And If someone says I am wrong, I will think it over.
No one should take offense to being told they are wrong,  that's one of the biggest problems with society.
But I agree with taking the wind out of the overly energetic lot who come through here. Just so they slow down a bit.

Up until this point I thought the 50 post rule was the dumbest fucking thing I've ever herd.

You don't seem judgemental, but damn you people are mean!
