I do think we might want to put something like, "if you think this is depressing, you haven't really understood it yet.  Read it again" somewhere.  Maybe the back cover?

Lies

You know, your dealing with an ex-telemarketer here :P
5% is the average we expect on a GOOD day. Thats about what a "decent" telemarketer can achieve anyway.
There are some "pros" that get about 15% conversation rate, that takes some serious fucking marketing skills.

At my best guess, I'd wager the average of this book actually getting through to them is around 1-2%.

But I could be dead wrong.
I've never tried to market "thinking" to people before.

Just a thought.
- So the New World Order does not actually exist?
- Oh it exists, and how!
Ask the slaves whose labour built the White House;
Ask the slaves of today tied down to sweatshops and brothels to escape hunger;
Ask most women, second class citizens, in a pervasive rape culture;
Ask the non-human creatures who inhabit the planet:
whales, bears, frogs, tuna, bees, slaughtered farm animals;
Ask the natives of the Americas and Australia on whose land
you live today, on whose graves your factories, farms and neighbourhoods stand;
ask any of them this, ask them if the New World Order is true;
they'll tell you plainly: the New World Order... is you!

That might be a *good* idea, similer to PD's "If you think this is all a bunch of ha-ha, read it again" thing.

I never said that the book sucked, it just comes off dark and depressing. I can see how it IS a good thing though.

Telling somone they need to read the thing that depressed them again is an inferior tactic to not depressing them in the first place.

Suggests to me there is scope for revising. I've been in the "BIP coulda been more upbeat" - camp since I read it.

BIP was the second piece of discordian literature I ever read. I liked it. I thought it was really good but I didn't think it was quite as good as the original PD.

I hope I'm not pissing on anyones parade here because I reckon between the talent that produced the BIP and the noobs who have arrived here since then there is the potential to produce a doc that blows PD out the water.

if at first you don't succeed ....

[edit] IMO this forum blows PD out the water and off the map. But it's a bastard of a thing to print out

Ugh, look.  I am a reformed depressed-goth-emo-whatever.  I wrote the dark poetry, wore the black clothes, told everyone I wanted to die, etc.,  etc.,

But really, REALLY, please, somebody for the love of Frederick tell me, specifically, how is the BIP depressing?

"The world is fucked up.  But, you don't have to be fucked up with it."  How is that depressing?

That's how.

Triple Zero

well it seems rather obvious, but it isn't to many.

just like a lot of people only tend to notice the first part of the law of fives, and ignore the second

maybe a lot of people tend only to see the "black! prison! you can't escape! the world is fucked!" bit and ignore the "But, you don't have to be fucked up with it" part.

but if they get that wrong that doesn't mean they can never get it.
most probably they are still locked into some sort of preconceived notion, which they should be shaken out of.

It's nothing I can specifically put my finger on. It's the overall impression I came away with. There were bits that made me laugh but the overwhelming mood was one of doom. Maybe someone with mad lit crit skillz could explain why but that aint me, I just tell it like I see it.

Modern Discordians have finally almost created a new idea on their own . . . they only had to rip it off from an imfamous CIA investigated sci-fi hack named Dick. How appropriate.

This idea is known as the Black Iron Prison, and the basic concept is that your own perceptions are a prison from which you can never break free from. Once you realize you are trapped in a prison you can try to break out, but once you are outside you realize you are trapped within a larger, more impenetrable, prison. No matter what you do, or what you try, you are trapped.

What a cheery concept.

They offer no ways to get out, or think around this concept, its just laid out there and you had better digest it, accept it, and like it or you are a shallow fool who doesn't get the 'harsh reality' of the situation.

The idea comes from Dick's book Valis, which nobody I know has read or even heard of. The more obscure, the better, I guess.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Like that is going to suddenly cause asshole bloggers to start telling the TRUTH, rather than just putting whatever slant they feel on a given subject?

Come on, man!  These assholes make Armstrong Williams look like a journalist.

Cripes, so do we have to start including a dose of Ritalin with every pamphlet so they will be able to pay attention?  Maybe we need to throw in some Zoloft too.
