Oh, I was in full 23/Illuminatus!/PD mode when i came here.

Got into a bunch of theological debates about Eris, etc.

The evidence is right there, I can't deny it.

I think it prolly makes a big difference how much experience with philosophical-type discussion groups you bring to the table. The clued-up noob will already have their online persona pretty much sorted out. For me it's like public speaking - something that you develop as you go on. That means issues of being able to express yourself properly will be covered. You'll be a confident online author and able to deal with any bullshit that gets flung your way.

Another thing that comes with experience is actually reading some posts before you jump in. You have the unprecedented opportunity to walk into a clubroom and get to know the people you are meeting, before you even meet them.

Your next step is to instigate a major flame war. Most of my best online relationships have grown from the ashes of those.

I'm willing to bet that if we only looked at users that left after like 50 posts we'd find some goodies. Like:

Tell you what... :idea:  I prefer "Corpus Pineale"!!! If every discordian would eat one "CP" a day, we all would receive more signals form Sirius... That is why i hunt the GRAY FACES and eat theire "CP's"!!! :twisted:
Everyone interested in joining "Corpus Pineale Devourers" write here :arrow: phoenix666@wp.pl
HAIL Corpus Pineale Devourers!!!
HAIL ERIS!!! HAIL DISCORDIA!!!

same guy but a good post:
A day before yesterday I was on a very boring lecture - a guy had no idea how to say anything interesting about Kant and his philosophy... So i'm sittin there and... (to be honest i was recovering after a "long night" with lots of beer and Mary Jane") Hail Eris - a signal from Sirius!!! "You must finish this Gray Face..." So I did (what??) -I thought- might be the best way to implicate CHAOS - the turkey curse... The guy didn't know what was going on, when he heard GUL GUL GUL and saw me waving my hands in different directions  :twisted: And... It WORKED - in 5 minutes (yeah - the law of 5) he ended the lecture and run out of the clasroom... Afterwards, many people were grateful for finishing the guy and thus I convinced some of them to join the discordian society!!! HA HA HA
Besides - the guy was soon foun dead because of the lack of CORPUS PINAELE - I couldn't stop myself  :P
Hail Eris!!! Hail Discordia!!!

a fake one

i try to cause chaos when i can
we could work that into a job description....

a short list of some of my recent activities

today i climbed my old highschool, got high, and used a fat red sharpie to make arrows on the roof of the school pointing to things you could see from up there. like perkins, and the ice rink, about half were porly labled like iceland

yesterday i wrote a message to a friend on a big ass log and left it on her doorstep.

then i stole a can of redi-whip froma gas station and rode my bike arround doing whippets.

after that i went to the carwash where my friends work and drive my bike through it three times (yeah, it was on)(yeah i gor wet)

then i climbed a karati place and went in through the trap door on the roof and stole a trophy that i traded for weed.

then i climbed th liquor store looking for another trap door, but no luck. so i turned off their ventilation system.

ive been climbing a lot of buildings

good times

okay those were far more trouble than they were worth

I found Eris, and the bitch gave me crabs, so I threw 'em in some pot to boil.  My only problem with humanity is the people.  I don't really know how I've survived to the age of 25, but anytime Death wants to look me up he knows where I live.  I've worked for a while in healthcare, so I find Einstein's characterization of the infinite apropos.  Inevitably this will be just one more stop on my journey up the mountain, but I look forward to broadening my perspectives with people at least as smart as I (which is really why I keep coming back to the goddess, she's got so many interesting friends).  I exist only in the realm of YesNO, and TrueFalse so keep your absolutism for those that only see one or the other.  I make my own reality, and if I make it colorful enough the Bitch might pop in for tea.

Welcome to me.

:banana: is all I will say.
- So the New World Order does not actually exist?
- Oh it exists, and how!
Ask the slaves whose labour built the White House;
Ask the slaves of today tied down to sweatshops and brothels to escape hunger;
Ask most women, second class citizens, in a pervasive rape culture;
Ask the non-human creatures who inhabit the planet:
whales, bears, frogs, tuna, bees, slaughtered farm animals;
Ask the natives of the Americas and Australia on whose land
you live today, on whose graves your factories, farms and neighbourhoods stand;
ask any of them this, ask them if the New World Order is true;
they'll tell you plainly: the New World Order is you!

The BIP...from an insider's perspective, it's common sense.  It's a mission statement.  It's the "facts of life," Discordian style.

From an outsider's pov, it's a bit depressing, it comes off as smartass-toldjaso-getthefuckoverit.  Doesn't make it any less troofy, but you have to consider that when your exposure to this sort of horrible troof(tm) is a bit limited at first, especially if you haven't delved into the PD lit, you might be a bit thrown by the general fucked up/everything is fucked up nature of it.

I'm not surprised someone is canning it with a fake label and selling it on the black market already.  The job with the people HERE, imho, is to blow that misconception out of the water and put it into a more get-at-able arena.

The PD spoke to a whole generation of former cabbages and pinks, and the BIP should do the same.  The PD doesn't talk DOWN to its audience, but rather ribs them gently and provokes a lot of "WTF?"...shouldn't the BIP do the same?

Or is the target audience a different genre?  Does the BIP presuppose a bit of intelligence within the head so that certain things are "given"?  There isn't a whole hell of a lot of that with the PD, imo.  There's more of a "if you get it, welcome, if you don't, enjoy the ride nonetheless til the last period is read."

Just putting thoughts to screen, Guys.  I'm enjoying the discussions, wish I had more to give.

the BIP was borne of a lot of Discordians who have already 'been there, done that' with the PD stuff.  it's an expansion beyond the entry-level mindfuckery, an investigation into the mechanics of human behavior and metapsychology. it's still Discordian, just more refined.  it doesn't necessarily presuppose 'intelligence,' but it does presuppose a certain boredom with everything the PD has to offer.

the problem arises when people who haven't had the time, or expended the energy, to delve into Discordianism very deeply.  same thing you always had -- those who see discordianism as a religion disguised as a joke are more apt to getting into the BIP than those who see it as a joke disquised as a religion.

of course, it doesn't matter what kind of reviews it gets.  because the BIP trip is, by nature, concerned only with those who are looking for information.  people looking for answers quite rightly don't get it.  the good thing about the BIP is that if you start in with the wrong intentions, you'll always miss the point.  understanding the concepts requires you to do most of the hard work yourself, first.

I think we need to separate the BIP pamphlet from the BIP fora.  I think the BIP fora are probably less intimidating in a certain respect in that it is more open-ended, and by its nature, requires input from multiple sources.

As far as the pamphlet I can understand, to a certain degree, how someone who is just not paying attention would get lost in the "black"ness and the "prison"ness of the metaphor.  I guess I see the BIP as a downsized PD.  that is, we fired middle-management, which in the PD was teh funnay.  We gave teh funnay its walking papers and proceeded without him.  Cut out the fat.  Cut to the chase.  Cut to the bone!  Tough love.  Not everyone can handle that, it is true.

I guess lately my curmudgeony opinion is "fuck 'em".  If they are so dense that they can't get out of their own way to see what is being said, we don't need em.  Really.  I truly believe if I had picked this up, didn't know any of you cats, or anything about the PD, I would have gotten it.  "Yeah the world is fucked up!  Damn straight!  But, if I can keep my wits about me, if I can keep ME, I have a fighting chance."

Besides, do we really want to get at people who are so vapid and only skim the surfaces in life?  If so, then yes, this approach will never, ever work.  Maybe that's where the magazine comes in.  Gloss it up.  Put some BIP-babes in the centerfold.  Put in a crossword puzzle.  Put in some Discordian Recipes.  Oh, and of course, we cannot forget the complimentary spoon.

Does the BIP presuppose a bit of intelligence within the head so that certain things are "given"?  There isn't a whole hell of a lot of that with the PD, imo.

the PD also does presuppose this.

the difference is the way you walk out of it if you don't meet the requirements:

- didn't get the PD -> happy 23 pineal fnord fluff
- didn't get the BIP -> sad emo goth gloom

in its days, the PD also got dismissed by a whole lot of people saying it was too non-serious. of course. it was even intended that way.

But, if I can keep my wits about me, if I can keep ME, I have a fighting chance."

please to think about a certain point in life when your paradigm totally told you you were right, you found something that contradicted your paradigm, you quickly skimmed the surface and dismissed it with a few easy puns/punches. then later you learned the error of your mistake, you found out that you had it in fact wrong, delve a bit deeper and stretch your paradigm a bit wider (like goatse-man).
what i'm trying to say is, that some of these people that initially get it 'wrong', are smart guys, they just need to be shaken up a bit, open up a bit. well, maybe some of them should. now i'm thinking of Laz's "ZOMG MASONS" write-ups i'm not so sure.
but the point stays.

also i'd like to know who these concordia-movement ppl are then?
