As an interesting sidenote, during my 2-year lurking phase I was convinced for about 3 weeks that the "50 post rule" thingy meant the complete mandatory flaming of the first 50 posts of a new member in spe, as some kind of frat paddle initiation ritual.

Kinda fitted into the whole Discordian Civil War era type...Warrior priests with bullet-proof confidence and full of radioactive piss and vinegar, you know?


Actually, being a foreigner, I still kind of cannot believe that groups of strapping young lads enjoy paddling themselves with a piece of wood and their environment considers them more masculine than before. Do these things actually happen or is that just propaganda?

As far as my knowledge goes there are also numerous tribes in Africa whose the Elders have a habit of raping the adolescents. And as far as I know, in those scenarios there are many Elders and few adolescents.
