Mesozoic Mister Nigel

"I'm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk," Charles Wick said. "It was very complicated."

Whoa!

Yeah.
Terrorism is flashy and public, but no-one sees the people dying at home from illnesses they don't have the money to treat.

Is it plugged in?

Or medical errors related to bullshit like poor handwriting.

Or like when Mrs. Alty went from 3 to 10 centimeters in less than 10 seconds during the birth of our youngest because the nurse accidentally turned the petosin (sp?) to 11 instead of the saline. We had signed a waiver for that shit in case massive uterine contractions caused stuff like, you know, DEATH to the baby.

Yeah, my brother in law died of poor handwriting.  He was supposed to be given 10 mg pills and was given 100 mg pills.
You're a special case, Babylon.  You are offensive even when you don't post.

Merely by being alive, you make everyone just a little more miserable

I wonder if anybody ever ran the numbers for people who died when they had insurance, but not insurance that would cover the problem.

Bet its still more than terrorism.

Hm it's odd because writings on prescriptions are notoriously unreadable (dunno why but doctors seem to make a point of it not being legible), but I don't think here much accidents happen because of it. I think it's partly because there's only a few things that can be on the prescription. Though adding an extra 0 to the dosage is not one of those things :)

We appear to be doomed by our DNA to repeat the same destructive behaviors our forebears have repeated for millenia. If anything our problem solving skills have actually diminished with the advent of technology & our ubiquitous modern conveniences. & yet despite our predisposition towards fear-driven hostility; towards what we anachronistically term primitive behavior another instinct is just as firmly encoded in our make-up. We are capable as our ancestors were of incredible breathtaking acts of kindness. Every hour of every day a man risks his life at a moments notice to save another. Forget for a moment the belligerent benevolent billionaires who grant the unfortunate a crumb of costfree cake. I speak of pure acts of selflessness. A Mother who rushes into the street to save a child from a speeding vehicle. A person who runs into a burning building to reach a family trapped on the upper story. Such actions, such moments, such unconscious selfless decisions, define what it is to be human

it's not just the USA. although that terrorist comparison is quite scary. Medical fuck ups killed my Mum back in the UK, LSS wrong drip, bad diagnosis, oh its that kind of cancer ...oops too late unlol, and over irradiated my Dad till his lower jaw crumbled off and chunks of the poor old fella's face had to be rebuilt from bits of his shins and arse and chest and whatnot. Radiation burns are NASTY.

Cured the cancer so far mind you. So its pretty much a win, with some attached fail. The fail being the doctors tell us that they may have sort have kinda well totally accidental applied 300 times too much, hence the collapsing bones and shit  :argh!:

Still, for every fuck up, I reckon there's at least several none fuck ups, life savings if you will, which make the fuck ups OK IMHO. It's not a perfect world. Medicine's complicated, and varies from person to person. Accidents happen. Sad but true

Holy shit that's horrible.

There's no excuse for shitty handwriting on Rx's.  And I'm usually the medical-apologist of the forum.  This is why going electronic is a good thing, besides the fact that most US docs are total technophobes.

HFLS, I'm so sorry to hear about the medical fuck-ups on your parents, and BH, same to you.  That's horrible, terrible and shitty altogether.

They're probably statistics from different polls, with the difference due to either random sampling error or the questions being worded such that some people would both say they don't believe in evolution and that they believe in evolution controlled by God.
