A bad day for New York...

Someone especially tasteless needs to print these and drop them around the site of the WTC, for this reason:

Governor Pataki responded the next day with a warning to cultural institutions that was appropriate for a War on Terror: "We will not tolerate anything on that site that denigrates America, denigrates New York, or freedom, or denigrates the sacrifice and courage that the heroes showed on 9/11." Claiming to safeguard the principle of freedom itself, Pataki's demand for an "absolute guarantee" against potentially "offensive" material suggests a doctrine of cultural preemption that, like the Bush administration, claims a sovereign right to act against threats "before they are fully formed."  While cynically emphasizing the right of private artists and institutions to free expression, Pataki actually heeded the call to "draw a line," declaring the site to be a zone of exception where this right could be suspended by executive authority: "Sure there can be debate. . . . But I don't want that debate to be occurring at Ground Zero, and to the extent that I have the power, it's not going to happen."

I'm sensing a definite anti-republican bias on the board.

Hows that for understatement of the year.

I'm sure if the Democrats actually did anything except flop around like a fish suddenly put on land and grew a spine or something, we'd hate them too.

I actually save most of my bile for New Labour, but their authoritarian tendencies are better hidden and involve reading hours of tedious legislation.  And that makes terrible cartoons.

LMNO

I bet you the Dems, if asked, would agree with Pataki.

And then fall over themselves backtracking.

Mesozoic Mister Nigel

I'm a Republican, but I'm an anti-Neocon Republican so it sort of makes me an orphan.
"I'm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk," Charles Wick said. "It was very complicated."

The bias on this board is generally anti-the fuckers in charge.

Because the people in charge are, you know, fuckers.

I am the result of 13.75 ± 0.13 billion years of random chance. Now that I exist I see no reason to start planning and organizing everything in my life.

Random dumb luck got me here, random dumb luck will get me to where I'm going.

Reading The Economist makes you Republican?

I just thought it gave you a first hand view of the idiocy of Thomas Friedman.
