TESTEMONAIL:  Right and Discordianism allows room for personal interpretation. You have your theories and I have mine. Unlike Christianity, Discordia allows room for ideas and opinions, and mine is well-informed and based on ancient philosophy and theology, so, my neo-Discordian friends, open your minds to my interpretation and I will open my mind to yours. That's fair enough, right? Just claiming to be discordian should mean that your mind is open and willing to learn and share ideas. You guys are fucking bashing me and your laughing at my theologies and my friends know what's up and are laughing at you and honestly this is my last shot at putting a label on my belief structure and your making me lose all hope of ever finding a ideological group I can relate to because you don't even know what the fuck I'm talking about and everything I have said is based on the founding principals of real Discordianism. Expand your mind.

what happens when you put something on the internet? -- part 2 --

although it has the appearance that we are just typing things in magic boxes and clicking magic links that do magic things

the underlying structure of what is occurring is this:

person A is placing information in a location

person B is accessing the information where person A left it

you place information in a location (a server)
i dial into the server and access the information that you placed there

a website is information that somebody placed in a location for you to access

when you type a post - you put it somewhere for people to access

so -
in a way -
you are not talking to somebody
- rather you are making communication available for somebody or somebodies

this can be a significant thing to consider and understanding this may change the way you approach communicating

if you want to compare it to a offline situation

it would be the equivalent of being in a empty room and writing on a wall
- leaving it there for people to access

some people can see it and respond to it
add to it
refine it
or leave it alone

now excuse my lack of history knowledge, but isn't this like the traditional (roman? greek?) meaning of "forum"?

some place in the middle of a town where people put up messages or something?

or maybe i'm completely confused on this and got my history mixed up with a few internet and monty python jokes (sorry)

I would like the idea of an IRL public forum, where people could leave messages in threads and discuss things in anonymity except with the added option of IRL discussion.

There should be more amenities like this in parks.

What are you trying to do, encourage the inmates to communicate!?

Sorry, I would reply, but then I may have to do lots of writing, with paragraphs and I wouldn't want you to be put out.  Jackass.

Yeah, I still haven't fogotten that earlier slam.

LHX did too.

And I think I replied to your PM, or deleted it by mistake.  I know I deleted one by mistake, but I've been tripping on Pro-Plus and Red Bull for 3 days on end and so my timeline is confused.  If I didn't say it before, apology accepted.

i think, if you try for a bit, there are several places where you can do this.

without moderation:
- the free ads board in supermarkets
- all those public places where you can leave flyers

with moderation:
- perhaps you could convince a librarian to reserve a piece on a board somewhere?

would be an interesting experiment, were it not for the fact that we'd probably be dissapointed in the quality of posts. think of engaging in a randomly picked internet forum.
