What is the porpoise of the black iron prison if not to escape?  Any suggestions?  Suicidal tendencies will be considered.
So long, and thanks for all the shit.

The BIP is the first metaphor we came up with and it stuck.

It only becomes a "Prison" when you stop breaking out.

Shit

Yeah but, breaking out of the Discordian/Grayfacian prison is like destroying planet Saturn.  Nearly unpossible, and to what avail?
So long, and thanks for all the shit.

LHX

the purpose of the prison is to have somewhere to put things

and possibly to define a point of reference where 'breaking out' is as significant as 'coming to terms with'

Troof.  "Black Iron Closet" just doesn't sound as hard-core. and 'breaking out of the Black Iron Closet' might be misconstrued.

Cowass!  The Black Iron Prison is a metaphor for Discordians who can't come to terms with the Reality of an inmate named "Bubba Pigslav".
So long, and thanks for all the shit.

I believe it was Jenne who mentioned in another thread that it's not so much breaking out of the BIP as being conscious of it and how that subsequently impacts your life. It was very well put.

Don't worry so much about where you are in relation to the BIP, so much as how you choose to use your understanding of its existence.
Be the trouble you want to see in the world.

There is no escape.  Can you escape the biology of your body?

Can you escape the way your mind processes thought?

Can you escape millions of years of domesticated primate evolution?

No.

The point is to realize that what you perceive as "reality" is a small, fractured, biased & tainted peek through the keyhole of the Universe.

The point is to realize that the cultural and psychological filters you use to process information are malleable, but you'll always be filtering out something.

There is no purpose - I'm with the nihilists on that one

This makes it even more fun - I'm mocking the nihilists on this one

perception of a segment vs reality of the whole

the real trick is to factor in this inescapable filtering into your perception - that way you can counteract it and claim that you are able to perceive the whole

as 1337 skilled discordians w/ extra-terrestrial awareness - we have a opportunity to pick and choose what we filter out

if anybody at any point in time loses sight of this aspect of the nature of perception - it would be the equivalent of a super hero temporarily forgetting his super power

WHAT I MEAN BY THIS IS
you should keep these understandings in a easily-accessible portion of your brain

Others have answered more eloquently than I will, but, that hasn't stopped me in the past.

I sum it up to awareness.

It's awareness of your awareness.

One of the possible pitfalls of "Black Iron Prison", I think, is concentrating too much on the "Black" and the "Prison."  And you know, I think that is very appropriate.  It's kind of like a Starbuck's Pebbles test in a way.  One hears "Black Iron Prison" and might automatically think "doom, oh woe is me, I can never escape, etc., etc.," (exaggerated for dramatic effect).

But, another possible reaction is, "yeah, that's true.  I am limited by my biology, my mind processes, my bars.  But, that doesn't have to be a bad thing.  It's what it is."

With that second reaction there is a realization that you can't escape those things.  But, why would you need to?  Unless you are obsessive and have a need for Ultimate Enlightenment(tm) or some such idea.  At least, knowing these limitations and recognizing that the walls and bars can move, can bend, "malleable" as someone else said, you can have a clearer awareness of your surroundings.  You'll have more success navigating.  And you'll be less likely to be lead around by the nose by someone else.

Of course, we can still fall back into the grey at any point.  But, if we all leave bread crumb trails for each other, we'll be in decent shape.
Cynicism is a blank check for failure.

I think too many people are hooked into a false idea of freedom.

They think, "Oh, I am enlightened!  I can do whatever I want, with no consequence!  I accept no chains!  I am FREE!"

And then they try to fly by jumping off a roof, and find two things:

1. Gravity is indeed a pretty strong fucking chain.
2. Emergency rooms are costing quite a bit more, these days.
