This thread, in a nutshell, is the inherent danger of Discordianism.

Would one go so far as to say it were the cancer killing Discordianism?

I wouldn't, but one could certainly make a case for it.

What DID Nigel do, anyway?  I can't check right now, but I'm dying to know.

Nigel bumped the thread

she had some nice things to say about us.

then Bogus replied to give his rehash of the whole matter (which cain posted)

nothing really exciting is going on there at the moment.  Though from what I read, they apparently got attacked by a spam bot and think that's somehow connected to us? I don't recall anyone going over there to imagebomb or anything, so I suspect it's a great demonstration of the Law of Fives.

But....but Bogus Magus and his friends are liek ubermenschen Discordian types!  How could they forget the Law of Fives?

WHAT?

THAT FUCKING POMPOUS PRICK

there, that's what i think.

i was there and i saw no intelligence or provokingness, if he has it, he was carefully hiding it. pffff, bastard.

and that he wanted an ouroubouros thread is the first time i ever heard about that, sounds like a fun idea in fact, but all i saw was some n00b* spouting pineal and chaos magick crap editing his own posts, bitching about how we mistreat n00bs and worship postcount.

* where n00b can also mean smelly old fart.

QuoteIf you can't achieve tolerance, at least attempt courtesy.

RAW made it quite clear that he had E-Primed that on purpose. Don't think of it as "If you can't be tolerant, at least be courteous." The struggle seems more evident, between attempting and achieving.

bah, can't he come up with a better reason than "because RAW said it" .. yuck!

i bet the old man (RAW) would be very very sad if he heard people starting sentences with "RAW made it very clear that .." in an argumentative manner.

not to speak about the "doom and gloom" remark about the BIP pamphlet ..

oh, and can somebody PLEASE post the banksy iconoclasm in that thread?

Bogus appears to me as quite often brilliant and in this instance a schmuck... it happens to all of us. ;-)

He came in to prove something, and indeed did "prove" it.  At least to himself.

As good ol's RAW said: What the thinker thinks, the prover proves.

Yep.

He does make some (imo) valid points about the lack of optimism around here at the time... but that seems to have drastically colored his view on everything else. See, if he'd stuck it out like I did, he may have been greatly surprised. Yet, even among Discordians, we often still seem to gravitate to groups that don't threaten or challenge our favored world view too much.

Interesting, no?

Again, the lumping together.

I happen to be a ridiculously optimistic person . . . and I do actively seek out people who have views different from mine . . .

We are all separate people with separate agendas.  Lumping us together does everyone a disservice.

Yeah, I think you might find that mosbunall of us would consider ourselves to be optimistic.

I don't think our cynicism or gallows humor belie this.  I think what Bogus was objecting to was sumbunall of our sense of Realism/Realpolitik.

That is, the world might be going to shit, and humanity might be made up of mostly monkeys, but if we know that, things will turn out all right.

Cain

I think Bogus is a hypocritical jerk who edited his posts to destroy any meaningful criticisms that were done of them, made up a bullshit excuse about "non-linearity" for the MLA crowd, then proceeded to take part in exactly the sort of territorial pissing games he thinks he is above.

Which is all fine, but he had to be a coward and post it elsewhere as well.

I would agree... except to modify " Bogus acted like a hypocritical jerk when..." ;-)

Also, I didn't intend for my statement to include everyone... nor any one persons particular optimistic or pessimistic view. I was referencing my opinion of the place when I first started posting here regularly. I didn't think I needed to use E-Prime here, but I can do that if it will keep people from thinking that I'm talking about them personally  :lulz:.

When I spend most of your time focused on 8-circuit grids, reality tunnels, Crowley and even the PD etc. the general feel I have is one of control, not total control, but some control. They're my circuits and I can change them. They're my ideas and I can modify them. It's my reality tunnel and I am free to order and disorder the concepts that make it up as I Will. Those models and maps tell me that I am in control, I have the Power of Will and I have the capability of being Free.

The BiP metaphor, as laid out here a year ago, made me feel as though there was no control, other than minor changes to perception (I can move a few bars around), but from Sperm to Worm, from Womb to Tomb, I'm trapped in Prison.

Coming from a RAW/Leary/Crowley perspective... thats a harsh and pessimistic trip.

Of course, if your coming from the other direction... maybe the RAW/Leary/Crowley stuff looks like fuzzy happy bunnies with rainbows shooting out of their asses.
