Some yahoo yelled at me, saying 'GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH', and I thought, "I'm feeling generous today.  Why not BOTH?"

Organizing is always the problem. I just throw out ideas. I'm charitable like that.

Net, I've seen some of those old woodcuts around, but I haven't found any of a high enough res to really be usable. Mostly they're already stuck into some image and too small/altered to be easily worked with, and I'm still working on getting decent photo editing stuff on my home comp (bought a Mac; love it to death, but cannot use my PC Photoshop anymore), so I need stuff that's easy to work with. Did you find a cache of those things, or do you just dig them up on a case-by-case basis?

I have a number of books that are full of this stuff that I will spend hours going through for a single project.

You may be able to check out graphic books from your library that have accompanying CDs so you don't need to worry about the scanning process. One book I have is used and had a CD, but luckily, the prints in the book have enough resolution to be scanned and enlarged. If you scan high quality prints at 1600 dpi you can usually get away with 100% enlargements  (line art should be 600 ppi minimally).

Even if you get your hands on the goods, you'd need some professional page layout software to really play with it. You might look into Scribus in lieu of shelling out the cash for Quark or InDesign.

Based on a purely once-over quick look at Scribus, all I have to say is

OH
MY
GOD

Thank you. I don't have the money to be picking up programs like that, and although Trip0 kindly hooked me up with InDesign a while back, that can't be shipped over to my Mac.

You have made me incredibly excited. :D

Scribus comes pre-installed with some distros of Linux
