That line from the father's song in Mary Poppins, where he's going on about how nothing can go wrong, in Britain in 1910.  That's about the point I realized the boy was gonna die in a trench.

Many people I know have despicable habits, opinions, or hygeine. That doesn't stop me from being friends with them, but it does force me to keep them at arm's length in many contexts.

Also, IIRC, aini never brought up PTSD. To be fair, it sounds more like something you're using to rationalize her recent racist explosion.

I could maybe understand PTSD to a certain degree.  But why does the PTSD lead to racial discrimination?  Why isn't she afraid of all men, instead of just black men?  I know I went through a time when I wasn't particularly fond of women after going through a bad breakup.  And it was with a redhead.  But I didn't choose to hate all red-heads, I chose to hate all women in general.  So I guess that's maybe where it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

PTSD for any reason does not excuse racism, especially from someone who is otherwise intelligent enough to know better because, well, they're intelligent enough to know better.

I dunno your feeling about RAW, but I think you ought to read Prometheus Rising if you honestly think that statement is True ;-)

Thats the only thing I can think of to rationalize her racism.

If she is not PTSD, then it stands that she is a racist.

I'm not ready to accept that.

On a lighter note, I would like to share that I read that as "many people I know have despicable hats" and I loled.

DAMN YOUR UGLY HAT! WE CAN STILL BE FRIENDS, BUT IT WILL BE A SHALLOW, MEANINGLESS FRIENDSHIP.

she has extremely racist opinions regardless of whether or not she has PSTD.
accept that at your own pace

-but it doesn't mean you have to stop being friends with her.

Sir Squid Diddimus

man, i have PTSD from a few things in life but you can't hate a whole group of people for it.
you can't blame a whole group for what one person did.

wow that was redundant.

Mesozoic Mister Nigel

She has never claimed PTSD to my knowledge (I think I brought it up) and the specific thing about her attitude that makes her racist and not simply afraid is that she rationalizes it, rather than accepting that it is an irrational fear. She claims not to be racist, and presents a bunch of transparent rationalization to justify her racism.

PTSD or not, that is racism, and it's personally repugnant to me for obvious reasons. If she does have PTSD, and it results in an irrational fear of black men, her attitudes are still her responsibility. They may have a legitimate root, but that does not make them legitimate or rational.
