The Good Reverend Roger

" It's just that Depeche Mode were a bunch of optimistic loveburgers."
- TGRR, shaming himself forever, 7/8/2017

"Billy, when I say that ethics is our number one priority and safety is also our number one priority, you should take that to mean exactly what I said. Also quality. That's our number one priority as well. Don't look at me that way, you're in the corporate world now and this is how it works."
- TGRR, raising the bar at work.

My next episode (Episode 5!!!!!!!HOLYSHITBBQ) won't be called the law of fives...
It will contain 200% more sodium and citric acid. Stay tuned...

Oh and by the way, any listeners of my shows has any comments? suggestions? insults?

The three of them are most welcome! :D

As for the show, ALOT will be modified for a bigger, better, funnier, conceptual and more chaotic show :D

AND ERIS SAID : LET THERE BE FUCKED UP THINGS!
AND THERE IS WAS!

use internet explorer.

srsly.

:crankey:

Not all the time, dammit, just for that webpage.  Theres something screwy going on with their download link not appearing while using firefox.  (opera, too, i think).  IE just happens to be the only browser i've found that works.

Ari

Awright; 150 minutes live session of minimal teknå straight from Göteborg is in the box!
Question: is 30kB upload enough to broadcast with? Otherwise I will get a mate to upload the file somewhere.

LMNO

2 questions:

1) any chance of posting when the fucking thing will be streaming?

2) any chance of it streaming between 8:00 and 4:00 EST?

3) any chance of just automating a stream loop so it's always on?

Triple Zero

see http://radiofreediscordia.org/ (sidebar "Now Playing" tells you if the stream is on)

and http://radiofreediscordia.org/schedule/ although as far as I can tell, these are the *minimal* airtimes, and there are (as you can read in the blog on the main page) shows and/or streams being broadcast discussed at #discord as long as there are people listening.

continuous stream, I dunno, I let MS answer that one.

How much upstream is needed to broadcast live via the server? I don't feel like uploading this giant file to crap'n'share...

Triple Zero

i don't know .. depends on the bitrate, it's 128kbps I suppose? that's kilobit per second, so that would require 128/8 = 16 kilobyte/sec upstream.

so I suppose with 30k/s you should just manage.

if i understand it correctly, it's streamed to MS's server first, which then multiplexes it to the different listeners, so the number of listeners shouldnt cost you any extra bandwidth,.

LMNO, if you wanna know when RFD is online, just stick your nose in #discord. If anyone's playing anything, it'll be in the topic, or you'll prolly hear about it within a few minutes. You could also see if the (rarely updated) RFD twitter has any more info.

PW, I think you'll probably get away with 30kb/s upload. Just go for it, see what happens. :)

Mourning Star

30k upload will not be sufficient unfortunately.  You are welcome to try, but 128k/s encoding, means literally that kind of upstream is needed.

LMNO, I will look into auto-dj solutions, but usually those require the files it pulls from to reside on the streaming server itself, and ours did not include enough storage space.

I, however, will try.

Ari

well, my own internet is shut down as of today.
but I got permission to loan my roommate's modem which has 50-60kbyte upstream. we will find out if that's sufficient or not tonight. otherwise i will just throw it all in one big file and upload it via another friend's 2mbit connection.

Mourning Star

when you say modem, do you mean a traditional telephone modem? or a broadband modem?

There is absolutely no way you can broadcast a 128K stream via dial up...

Rev.Spade

ah! dial-up! Such fond memories...

Mourning Star

fond memories?

of what?

waiting hours to download porn that you can download in SECONDS now?

or maybe getting gakked, hard, by any and all gamers who WEREN'T on a dial up connection trying to game proper?

or maybe when it got a little windy and rainy, and the line noise caused your modem to drop carrier every 10 minutes, forcing you to dial back in, and hope that your ISP's lines weren't all full.

...

nope
can't say I remember anything positive about dial up
