Schneier has been philosophical for quite some time. He's gotten more political, but it's hard not to when you focus on security. The U.S. and U.K. governments are implementing so much security theatre that not commenting on it would be impossible in the field.

I stopped listening as soon as he glossed over hierarchy as fundamentally wrong and this bullshit about wolves having hierarchies because they're not intelligent enough to "communicate properly."

um, okay, i admit .. i might not have read the article that carefully.

it does seem a bit bullshitty on second reading.

his security stuff is usually original and good though. that's the most important reason why i read those blogs, every one in five postings or so is about something really new and creative. because that's the way to hack stuff, think outside the box.

anyway, the article.

it doesn't really strike me as run-of-the-mill anarchist bullshit though. it sounds a lot more like my own "proto-discordian" bullshit

yes the bit about hierarchy is pretty much completely wrong.

the stuff about the "smart people behind the scenes" is some mild, but not yet unhealthy, paranoia.

i must admit, it grasped my attention because it started about prisons and keys and my BIP pattern matching circuit lit up i'm triggered easily, it seems!

the top of the hierarchy being a dangerous place. better to blend in and use your talents at the bottom.

it's all themes that seem to connect with the things we discuss here.

I think his smart people behind the scenes thing is a self aggrandizing deal ,talking about the engineers and programmers and administrators who make the infrastructure work, as opposed to the managers who are all trying to scramble to the top of the pile.
