My ideals are noble.

My beliefs are true.

I cannot, must not, compromise. That would be turning my back on my ideals.

The system is fixed, rigged, corrupt.

POLITICIANS are all swine. They cannot have my vote. I will not support them.

Instead, I will support myself. And ignore the politicians.

I will squeal like a pig, but I won't support this broken system.

I will consistently vote my conscience, if I bother to show up at the polls at all.

Compromising on a candidate who will compromise with the enemy is compromising my beliefs.

When the enemy wins the election, I will ignore it.

And next week, I'll ignore the tap in my phone line. And the white van parked outside my apartment, and the satellite dish aimed at my living room.

And I'll write DOWN WITH D.C. on the wall of my cell at the camp.

That'll show 'em.

This is more of that "if you vote for a third party candidate, you're throwing your vote away" rhetoric.

In 2004, 25% of the Electorate consisted of independant or 'third party' voters. That's only eight percent less than the number of republicans. The things they stand for shouldn't just be swept under a rug just because they're slightly smaller slice of the pie than the other two minorities. As if the only reason to show support for a candidate is to get him elected -- so if he's not going to win, jump ship while there's still time. fuck that noise!


Now I'll agree that in this election, Obama will probably outshine whoever's gonna take up the accursed Third Party mantle. But you're implying that anyone who votes third party (or doesn't vote at all) is contributing to putting citizens in camps? Come on. Might as well compare Nader to Hitler while you're at it.

One my better friends in late high school was a pretty big idealist hippie type
she was you know vice president or president of student council or something... can't remember which.
After grade 12 she went on some peace mission to one of those central African countries, don't remember which, but on of the ones who's name is just a bounch of vowels strung together. I helped in the foundraising for her trip, though she complained that I "didn't take it serious."
She was suppose to stay in the UN compound give out food, teach them how to drink water, and basically smuggly sigh at how much wealth we have here in Canada.
Anyways the story goes that the fool wandered off into the swamp one day, and basically went missing for a few days. The people keeping the whole thing safe, basically military types, heads were spinning for a few days, but she came back basically completely physcially unharmed. Never told anyone what happened out there.
But when she returned for OAC (grade 13) she was even more bitter and unserious them me, went from straight A's to working at Tim Hortons.... boy when those hippies crash they crash.
Well that's what believing in stuff will get you.

Qustion: what to do about?
Is the answer to put our head in the ground and ignore everything or to use the government for our own means? At the very least don't wait to write Down with DC on the cell wall, write it on an overpass.

I agree with the sentiment that the 2-party system is fucked, and that 3rd-party candidates ought to be an option. Normally, I'm right there with you, rallying behind the 3rd-party underdog guy.

But this year there is too much at stake to keep ignoring the way the system actually works in favor of the way the system should work. IMHO/E-Prime/etc.

After posting previously I underwent a period of introspection and I believe that I may have been a bit hypocritical. To knowingly participate in a system that is schewed and twisted is not so much putting the proverbial "head in the sand" but is more like this:

I believe that in the end it is really a difference of viewpoints. I choose to be more of an optimist, thought I don't, for the record, believe that our government has the best in mind for us or that the system works the way it should. I do however choose to believe that I can do some good by using the system in ways that benefit me and my own. In the end I guess, to each his own and all that jazz.
