I would like to point out that I have AS, and am not nearly as spagtastic as IANAR.  (Not that I'm not a spag of course, but IANAR is special) Screw excuses.

See, without you telling me that, I would not have guessed it.  Nor can I remember you having any problems with anyone else on the site (in fact, I tend to consider you one of the calmer and better posters, if anything).  IANAR is just an excuse-using spag.

Can't tell, because you're not a big dumb jerk.

I actually think that when IANAR says "Aspergers" he means "Big Dumb Jerk syndrome" because none of the people I know with Aspergers, online and off, are big dumb whiny jerks.

It doesn't come out as much over the internet, everybody is equally confused socially here, the rules are all wrong for communication without faces of vocal tones (the things I tend to miss, and have trouble controlling).

I've know a few of the asshole types, especially when I was working with Autism spectrum kids.  Anybody who hasn't had treatment yet, or whose parents used the diagnosis as an excuse for the behavior (well, the wrong kind of excuse, certain things are unavoidable) instead of an avenue of treatment, is probably going to have issues as an adult, if not for being an asshole, then for something else.

A thought:

When someone has no legs, they call them "challenged" (or "crippled," but go with me on this one).

The point being that they need to come up with solutions of how to function in a world designed for people with two legs.

That is to say, while some places might have ramps, the majority of their experiences are essentially "work-arounds" for the bipedal shit they encounter every day.

The point being that the majority of the time it is up to them to overcome their obstacles.

Now, let's make a parallel metaphor and say that a person with Asperger's on the Internet is the equivalent of a guy with no legs on the street.

What I'm getting from IANAR is that someone with AS can act like a douchebag, and not even realize they're doing so.  Their potential douchey-ness is like a blind spot, they can't even recognize it.

But what they can recognize is that the potential for douchebaggery is there.  And there's the solution.

With every post should come some sort of self-doubt-- not about the message, but about the medium.  Variations on, "I may sound like a douchebag, but..." should pepper IANAR's posts.

If IANAR's aware of a problem that exists soley in people with AS, then it is up to the person with AS to overcome that problem.

I understand that a person with AS might not be able to help sounding douchetastic, but they can at least send out signals indicating they know they're sounding douchey.

"Billy, when I say that ethics is our number one priority and safety is also our number one priority, you should take that to mean exactly what I said. Also quality. That's our number one priority as well. Don't look at me that way, you're in the corporate world now and this is how it works."
