This was a quick and dirty PDF made in three hours to satisfy both a need to produce something and to procrastinate.

I intend for this to be a start, of sorts, of something more. What more? That's really anybody's guess.

Pay close attention to LITGASM, mentioned in the introduction.

Jesus, Cram . . . this is really good.

I'll sign up for an del.ic.uous (or however the hell you spell it) account as soon as I can. Thus far, I have a ton of Discordian texts archived for LitGASM, including the Principia Entropius, "Condensed Chaos," "Omiterre Libellus," "Metaclysmia Discordia," and a few others. Pretty sure I have some Rob Breszny stuff waiting in the wings, too.

Once again, great job, Cram!

This motivates me to actually produce something worth reprinting.  Now if only I had adequate writing skills...

Great job, Cram! What program did you use to pull it together? In Design?

No, MS Word. And I had forgotten how much i HATE Word's formatting procedures.

here's some IRC discussion

tl;dr summary:
Producing these magazines will give people creative energy
Each issue by a different editor?
Themes for each issue
Compiling stuff .... fast > thorough

Payne   damn you Cram
Payne   everytime you do something like this, even in a half assed attempt, I want to do something Content and Creative related
Cram   nice
Cram   That's the point Payne -- as a group, when we see our work in print, it stimulates us to produce more work.
Cram   There's a spark of energy that comes out of finishing a project - and I hope that stuff like this magazine sparks people into producing their own creative efforts
rwhn   yeah me too, I'm taking some time off next week so maybe I can get something together.
Payne   we should look at rotating editorships
Payne   each issue by a different editor
Payne   pieces chosen by him or her and what have you
Payne   I'll work on compiling a bunch of good shit for issue two
Cram   that's a good idea
vexati0n   damn writer's block. i need to get laid by a thousand egyptian wenches or something.
bdsimpleton   i should probably start being more pro-active and actually post on the boards
Cram   one way we might do it is via del.icio.us tagging.
Cram   like here's how that would work, using the GASM format as a template---
Cram   you'd make a topic sayiing "I'm putting together an issue of Intermittens on the theme 'sacred chao'" (or whatever)
Cram   "You go tag every post you can find that's relevant with the tag "Intermittens_Chao"
bdsimpleton   and if two people tag the same thing?
bdsimpleton   it just gets two tags?
Cram   yeah
Cram   then when you've got enough material, all you have to do is search for that tag, and you'll find all the relevant material
Cram   That approach works best for projects bigger than PD -- if you're making stuff entirely out of stuff posted at PD, the thread x-post format is better.
bdsimpleton   i dunno how del.icio.us works, sorry XD
Cram   del.icio.us is very simple - you can learn how to use it in three minutes
Cram   all it does is keep bookmarks that other people add. Lets you tag web pages, etc
Payne   yeah
Cram   It's really one of the best ways to link up with the other Discordian networks out there without having to interact with them on forums or myspace or Livejournal or whatever
Payne   well, we'd be starting out with PD and POEE and other "local" disco sites anyway
Cram   yeah
Payne   until the del. idea got going
Payne   so issue two should be relatively simple for me to get shit together for
Cram   yeah
Cram   all I did was go through the womp cabal bucket for graphics, and the Insightful Post Dump for text.
Cram   The whole thing took like three hours
rwhn   what about making specific content as well.  Like someone says "We should have an article about [fill in the blank]" and someone says, "yeah I'm on it."
rwhn   or are we really just compiling writings
Payne   yeah, that's what I was thinking for rotating editorships
Payne   each editor could "theme" his choices
Payne   and make requests for specific topics
Cram   Yeah
rwhn   I think, eventually, we'd need some Q & A's.  Like say Giggles interviewing Chef.
Cram   I think that in a perfect world, an editor would make a proposition for a theme, and then people would start filling in the blanks... maybe take a week or two to produce an issue
Cram   really I think the key is not to hesitate to output these things. Don't sit on it forever, don't worry about making it look so sexy it could sit on a magazine rack, just push it out and we'll distribute it.
Cram   that's the problem with lollercaust - it got to be such a big deal, we never were able to PRODUCE it. It died on the table from being overtalked.
rwhn   Cause I think if someone gave me an idea to write about, I could do that.  I'm having a hard time just picking ideas out of the air lately.
Cram   I hear ya
Telarus   :mittens: on teh magazine Cram. Now I need to look past the cover.
Cram   lol

Cram   also, it's hard to use posts at PD in publications, because so few of them stand on their own, they're part of threads.
Cram   Now if there was a way to publish threads as a magazine article, we'd be SET
vexati0n   and there are ways to publish threads as articles, you just have to not use a BBS.
Telarus   yah, threads need to be edited into a narrative for magazine type publication
Cram   THAT might just be a matter of finding a visually appealing way to set them up... like taking the relevant parts of hte post and putting them in a  word bubble coming out of a WOMP head
Cram   like this sorta: http://blackironprison.com/index.php?title=What_is_The_Machine%28tm%29%3F

Cainad (dec.)

Can "Who Killed The Lulz" be a sort of recurring theme? As in, every publication will take some already-published text and replace the name of the main subject with "lulz," generally revolving around the theme of lulz being killed or disappearing.

I'd like to be an editor for an issue, if no one minds. I'd have to start trudging through the forums for stuff, but...

Also, :mittens: again, Cram. It is awesome!

I'd also like to give editing a try sometime, although I'd like to put it off until after the holidays, simply because I will be away from computers for awhile during festivities, both Thanksgiving and Jesus-mas.

And Valerie: if you're wanting to do the editing really soon, a good place to start trudging through is the "Or Kill Me" section, because the rants lend themselves well to the magazine format, being both long and self-contained. I will be going through that section tomorrow and posting some of the really old (relatively, as in old for these boards . . . 2003) rants from people like Trollax, Hugh and others onto the "Insightful Post Dump" thread. Unfortunately I only have internet access at work (yeah, I'm a worktime slacker), or else I would get it done tonight.

awesome! i'll spam this to some friends

maybe sometime i'll have the time to try out Scribus (opensource layouting program, probably not as advanced as InDesign, but probably easier to layout stuff with than Word) and help out.
