I fucking loved that game.

I know, right? I played all the sequels except Uru (which the rotten bastards didn't release for Mac), and every once in a while I check up on the status of Uru Live. Apparently Cyan Worlds plans to release the code as open source so fans can run the game.

There are a few private servers, AFAIK.
Glad folks got the refference :)  I still play the original every few years, when I've forgotten the puzzles.

Anyone ever think about how Richter inhabits the same reality as you and just scream and scream and scream, but in a good way?   :lulz:

Truth be told, I didn't like Riven very much.

Maybe my mentality had changed, but I thought that the clues and riddles in Myst were much more "believable" than in Riven.  I mean, I loved the "no rulebook, no rules, figure it out as you go along," but it just seemed you had to do a lot more pointless guessing, and less actual thinking to solve the puzzles.

I was kind of obsessed with the series. In addition to all the games, I've read all three novels (which are actually decent reads, IMO, and fill in a LOT of backstory) and personally find the storyline pretty compelling. Probably has something to do with being exposed to the game at such a young age.

Riven was freaking hard. You're right; the puzzles made sense after you read the solutions, but the thought process from clues to solutions did seem like a real stretch.

But by far the most interesting bit was the part where ℍ€ c○mḜs...

Riven was a step more towards an "Adventure" game than the series really needed.  Figuring out the D'ni numerical system was a pain in the ass too.

Thoughts on Exile?

PS - there are plans to adapt it to the iPhone.

.....ZZZZZAAAAALLLLLGGGGGOOOOOO.......

Exile had a compelling story and a killer ending (or set of endings). After doing the "good" ending, I tried the "you win, but he loses and commits suicide" ending just to see it before turning the game off and going to bed. I felt so bad about it I actually got out of bed, turned the computer back on, and did the good ending again just to soothe my conscience.

Yeah, that's right. I was an extremely kind, sensitive, and sympathetic human being before I got hooked on this place.

As far as puzzles, my dad and I (we always combined our brainpower and played the games side-by-side) got a lot farther on our own in Exile than in Riven before we wimped out and bought the cheat book.

Myst 4, anyone?

2 or 3 of us would do this in college, sit down and plow through a few similar games.  It's a fun way for a small group to swap ideas about the diff puzzles.  Loom by Lucasarts took us 4 hours, Zork: Nemesis took a couple sittings.

Cain

Its not, its from b3ta, and I believe its only about a month old, but thats all 4chan needs to drive something into the ground, sadly.
