QuoteBill Nye "The Science Guy" was booed in Waco, Texas for suggesting the Moon did not generate its own light, but reflected light from the sun.

Trouble started when the children's entertainer brought up Genesis 1:16, which reads: "God made two great lights -- the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars," and pointed out that the lesser light was actually a reflector.

At this point, several people in the audience stormed out, including woman with three small children who shouted, "We believe in God!" and left.

Nye was taking part in McLennan Community College's Distinguished Lecture Series, giving talks on global warming, Mars exploration, and energy consumption, but it was the moon thing that got them.

According to Morgan Matthew, "This story originally appeared in the Waco Tribune, but the newspaper has mysteriously pulled its story from the online version, presumably to avoid further embarrassment."

I'm okay with this, since these people are also likely not to believe in modern medicine.

Lies

- So the New World Order does not actually exist?
- Oh it exists, and how!
Ask the slaves whose labour built the White House;
Ask the slaves of today tied down to sweatshops and brothels to escape hunger;
Ask most women, second class citizens, in a pervasive rape culture;
Ask the non-human creatures who inhabit the planet:
whales, bears, frogs, tuna, bees, slaughtered farm animals;
Ask the natives of the Americas and Australia on whose land
you live today, on whose graves your factories, farms and neighbourhoods stand;
ask any of them this, ask them if the New World Order is true;
they'll tell you plainly: the New World Order... is you!

1) The moon gives off its own light.
2) Therefore, God exists.
3) Profit.

If Christians didn't exist we would need to invent them for EPIC LAFFS.

Very well then I contradict myself,

He was trying to pick a fight.  Or he was an idiot for not knowing his audience.   :lulz:

Anyone ever think about how Richter inhabits the same reality as you and just scream and scream and scream, but in a good way?   :lulz:

I'm pretty sure it was the former.  I saw him debate someone on Larry King once, I think it might've been Ben Stein, anyway, you can tell the guy likes stirring up the bees nest.  That's a good thing of course.

What astounded me was that so many people actually believe the Moon gives off its own light.  Did they scrub that bit out from all of the Elementary Earth Science books in Texas?

Isn't the whole "project flat-earth" thing the Creationists are doing about banning Elementary Science and replacing it with Hans Christian Anderscience?

Sadly, I would totally expect that your theory is the correct one.  Jeebus, maybe the sucky economy is good for us if it keeps stupid idiots from getting jobs that actually have an impact on the general public.

In that sense it seems like the last few centuries though.
It's not trolling, it's just satire.
