ITT: Original Story Ideas

This one's slowly coming to me as I read 'The Art of Maurice Sednak; 1980 to the Present'.

A man comes home to find his girlfriend has left a trail of clothes leading him into the forest. He follows, but instead of just finding her, pursues his way through a fairy tale landscape of talking animals, fantastic adventures and Grimm/Shakespeare variety magical experiences.

I want the journey based on some kind of thematic structure though (eg, Hero's Journey, The Four Humours, Five stages of Grieving, The Eight possibilities of Myers-Briggs) and haven't worked out one I want to use.

How about the Marquis de Sade's 150 criminal passions from his notes for the forth section of unfinished magnum opus School of Licentiousness: The 120 Days of Sodom

Or the seven deadly sins. Or the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Or The three domains/five kingdoms of living organisms. Or different major types of (potentially) pathogenic organisms (such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and prions). Or the Five Apostles of Discordianism. Or the eleven major holidays of Discordianism. Or different famous hotels on the Las Vegas strip. Or the four classical elements. Or the five Discordian elements..........

Yeah... All in good time. I've got four pots bubbling presently so I'll get onto this one later.

The main principle of this story involves compumancy. That is, using a computer as a medium just like any medium:
Ouija board, tarot cards, throwing bones. Throwing bones like the Africans practiced to "predict the future" was a practice of using a chaotic medium such as randomness to bridge a gap between those who are living and the so-called dead.

A simple piece of cardboard with letters scribed on it and a cardboard planchette is as much as medium as anything else on the planet.

The accelerate factor is human interaction and observation. Science is observation. Instead of a few people placing their hands on a cardboard planchette, possibly a crowd-sourced "group" of people participate in this "virtual board" which produces thousands of words per second.

Elsewhere an internet entrepreneur invests in running huge amounts of computing power into contacting these so-called "signs of life" in other realms of reality, and it begins to show signs of interpreting white noise/randomness/chaos at a rate no human could possibly prevously attain:
Ouija boards working at 7 million cycles per second, RNGs actively spitting out numbers and letters.
Kind of like "SETI" but for different realms.
At first there are just small sentences, then they become more descriptive. Then there is some kind of a cutoff and the machine has stopped giving "good data".
Whatever voice on the other side has attempted to use it's enhanced ability to set words in type to write code, AI code which it intends to be the AI containment box it possesses.

Ok, here's another idea that relates to the Cthulhu Mythos. A sequel to the events in the stories pickman's Model

In a recent Lovecraft Mythos compilation, Black Wings, there was a sequel to Pickman's Model which was very good.  In fact, I found myself thinking about the ending when walking to work one night...I think I arrived a good five minutes earlier than normal.

Here's an excerpt of what I have so far:

This segment I've written is all based on actual bible passages, BTW (For example, IIRC, Beatles 10:08 is stolen verbatim from Luke 3:15)

Cyberpunk story based on Lord of the Rings. The Dark lord is defeated but uploads his consciousness into a computer network and locks down his HQ with a seemingly impenetrable auto-defense system. His old laptop holds A customized USB peripheral (which is primarily just a flash drive, but has some unique security measures built into it) holds the key to deactivating him once and for all by containing the code sequence for activating his HQ's autodestruct sequence and destroying the primary server that houses most of his mind, however, it also contains the codes and code-cracking programs that would allow him to deactivate certain failsafes in government computers sieze complete control of the world; The computer's encryption system utilizes quantum entanglement so that none of these measures can be implemented unless the device is connected to a specific computer. Via his infiltration of the world's security systems the dark hacker-lord learns of plans to deactivate him and arranges to have his device delivered to him on his own terms. Blah blah blah, etc etc etc.
