ITT: Original Story Ideas

A couple of interrealted ideas (whose theme I think I've touched on before):

*An exploration of the idea that humanity may have already formed a collective consciousness (or consciousnesses) but that is as inaccessable to humans as the contents of the human mind are to an individual neuron

*Nations imagined as collective consciousnesses, isolated from their parts as above, sort of like a postmedern Polandball

*Workers in a kafkaesque bureaucracy are revealed in the end to be the neurons of a brain. They have no conception of the larger organism of which they are a part.

Post-modern satire of old minstrel shows. The blackface characters are played by actors that are actually black irl anyway.

A world in which foreign and domestic theatrical film prints are initially released with slightly varying cuts, in limited runs purportedly for market research.  Instead, the actual reason is to manipulate the emotional response of these audience members to the same narrative, in different ways.  For example, emphasizing the valor and courage of Americans in a war movie for domestic markets, and showing a very similar movie, with slightly more focus on the violent suffering of the same to draw foreign spectators into a fantasy: to dissimulate and defuse their sentiment toward the US in mock sacrifice.  Eventually, domestic releases are phased out entirely.

*Modern fantasy/fable/just-so story based on the premise that he reason people get old is because working a job (and sometimes also child rearing) literally sucks the life-force out of their body

The plot of Buttobi CPU is that there exists a model of humanoid robot that uses human sperm as RAM. (In this show, the main character fights against evil robots named the Nackintosh Sisters controlled by a mob boss, who have large auxiliary hard drive storage in their breasts.)

A zombie apocalypse film/story, but with stores instead of people, and about gentrification. Basically there's a seashore resort town and due to a spreading supernatural infection all of the fun quirky stores in this seashore town start turning into realtors and all of the cozy houses start turning into McMansions. Except for the "supernatural infection" part it's based on true events that I've witnessed.

*End-of-the-world film positing Donald Trump as the biblical Antichrist. His baldness is the wound in the head the healing of which (his toupee) causes the people to marvel (Rev. 13:3)

All the business leaders and captains of industry go on strike like at the end of Atlas Shrugged but economic collapse is averted by the discovery of a cache of "Magic 8-Ball"s, which are installed in place of the business leaders and improve the efficiency of the economy by 10%. The business leaders try to come back but nobody wants them.

While trying to come up with more mocking Atlas Shrugged parodies I hit on a great concept for a character: a combination of Tony Stark and Howard Hughes

Story with setting that appears similar to the Matrix trilogy (with regard to general premise re. simulated reality and rouge ai, but not in regard to characters, character roles, character goals, or locations), but with additional levels of intrigue, to wit:
1.) the so-called "real" world is also false. Part of the same simulation
2.) There are no Machines, not as a real faction at any rate; The war against the machines is another false distraction. The simulation was created by living beings.
3.) The real kicker: There are no humans. The protagonists' bodies in the real real world are utterly alien. The film ends with the protagonist being "killed" and waking up in a lovecraftian landscape and an equally lovecraftian body that they don't know how to use. They panic for a short time before being summarily executed by one of their keepers.

I just rewatched Back to the Future and it gave me an odd idea: How about a movie deliberately constructed to evoke the feel of a point-and-click adventure type computer game. Like, a significant part of the movie would consist of the protagonist accumulating and combining random junk. Back to the Future almost does this, the first 1/3 or so of the movie consists of Marty acquiring random stuff that later (earlier?) comes in handy, but there's not much contrived combining of items, and the acquiring of them gradually peters out.

King Arthur returns from the dead in accordance with legend, but is now completely unqualified to lead due to having missed the last millenium of political and technological progress (sort of like a combination of the constitutional peasant scene from Monty Python & The Holy Grail with the future shock/culture shock scenes of the first Austin Powers film

King Arthur, King Harold, Robert the Bruce, Finn MacCool, Emperor Nero, Bran the Blessed, Owain Glyndwr, King Olaf I, Vlad III, Sir Francis Drake, Emperor Norton, and JFK (i.e., many of the "king sleeping under the mountain" figures) revive simultaneously on the outset of the third world war, and get into a great drunken brawl in a dive bar.

The King(s) Under the Mountain(s) are awoken when mining and deforestation remove the ravens and eagles etc. circling the mountaintops

Another idea:
A story with a premise similar to The Purge, ie. there's an annual festival where all crime becomes legal. In this reimagining however, most people spend purge night at work. The corporations pay all their workers overtime and hazard pay to come in and spend the entire day destroying documents and other evidence proving criminal activity, as well as records that they are supposed to keep but cost money to maintain and store.

Cthulhu's return to active life after his long inprisonment at the hands of the Elder Gods is the subject of a comedy similar to the first season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Possibly the title starts with the word "Unspeakable".

A dark-comedy biopic of the incompetant spree-killer/serial-killer Laurie Dann (her homemade bomb failed to detonate, nobody wanted her poisoned food, her arson fire was found and extinguished before it could spread, her hostages got away. All in all she only successfully killed one person, while firing wildly into a crowd.)

[Rococo Modem Basilisk]

An astronomy student & part time college radio DJ goes to record an interview at a nearby radio astronomy center & suddenly blacks out. He comes to in the broadcasting booth of the radio station, covered in blood, with his tape recorder plugged into the broadcast system. He is arrested, accused of breaking into the studio and killing everyone he ran into along the way. During questioning, the investigators play the tape for him -- he hears nothing, but they both suddenly stand up, glassy-eyed, grab the tape, and rush out of the room. The police station's PA light comes on and everything goes quiet. The student (our protagonist) leaves through the open door of the investigation room to find all the police officers trying to kill themselves by beating their heads against walls or desks, except for a cluster near the main exit who are fighting over the tape. He eventually figures out that the sound on the tape, although not consciously audible, contains a sonic memetic parasite that causes people to have an irresistable urge to reproduce it at all costs; those who hear it but are unable to reproduce it undergo so much stress that they kill themselves, while those who have already aided in its reproduction are left immune to it. He follows the trail of the tape by following news incidents until realizing that one of the currently infected plans to hijack a goodyear blimp and broadcast the tape over the superbowl. He sneaks on the blimp, hijacks the hijacker, and burns the tape in front of him, at which point the hijacker jumps off the blimp onto the middle of a bunch of cheerleaders. Title card: "Dead Air"
