News:

PD.com forums: a disorganized echo-chamber full of concordian, Greyfaced radical left-wing nutjobs who honestly believe they can take down imaginary Nazis by distributing flyers. They are highly-suspicious of all newcomers and hostile to almost everyone, including themselves. The only thing they don't take seriously is Discordianism.

I wouldn't blame him.  I have promised a decent sum towards the server, for Xmas, he's likely spending it in advance on potatoes and rosaries, or whatever it is they do for fun in Ireland.

Hopscotch on the bogs.

Anyway, I'm done over at totse2.  And I take back the part about wanting Riv3r to come over.  If Easy-E and Fangly hang around once in a while, that's all I really want from that place, given the response I got on arrival.  Hell, they're still over there ass-slapping & high-fiving that they "drove us off".

I really don't care - it's only the internet - but I wonder why they wouldn't want more traffic?  Maybe it's a private club of people that know each other IRL, like FG, and they don't want any outsiders.

I think they've come to believe that's what a forum looks like, and wouldn't have it any other way.

Probably.

Anyway, meeting time.  See you spags in an hour or so.

"Billy, when I say that ethics is our number one priority and safety is also our number one priority, you should take that to mean exactly what I said. Also quality. That's our number one priority as well. Don't look at me that way, you're in the corporate world now and this is how it works."

A few of us know each other offline but as with most online communities they get cliquey after chatting for a few years.  You guys seem pretty tight nit too.

As for the members at totse2 I can't say I read all of their posts and agree with that they say.  Sometimes it's just easier to take a hands off approach and only post in threads that are interesting to you.

This one comes and goes.  I think the loading problem is on my end, though.  That fat bastard engineer is playing that WWII videogame in his office again.

Haha, that's how it works.  We rent a VPS but our ram kept maxing out.  vBulletin is a hog on CPU and RAM.

I've been floating the idea of getting a business internet line and building my own little datacenter.  If totse2 doubles in size it would pay itself off in about a year verses renting a second server.

Same, if it's any consolation I have identified specific quieries that cause that because for the most part yours is fast:
uploading avatars (you should force people to link), and search.

huh if that's so, then why did we change it so that now even linked avatars are automatically uploaded?

Oh no, they use Vbulliten, SMF handles it just fine but totse2 grinds to a halt every time someone changes their avatar.

BTW I've removed the "central notice / a personal appeal" banner again, I hope you've seen it :)

(As Roger complained about the slow board, it was the only thing I could think of that was changed. Even though there's no way it could have had any effect by any non-supernatural means of functioning--code is like voodoo sometimes)

Just let me know for the next donation run if you like :-)
