Maybe all this isn't really worth it.  This Thinking for Yourself business.  Sometimes I think its just too much effort.  That really we should just lie down and give in, we should stop biting the hand that feeds.

Where does it get us?  in the end?

I know what you'll say.  That life is meaningless, but we can give ourselves meaning, and there might be some worth in that.  Isn't there worth in someone else giving your life meaning?  Maybe its better to just roll with the punches.

okay, well.  this deserves an explanation at this point.  Clearly as an author I have done it wrong, because in my eyes you missed what I was trying to say, and it really could have been better put forward in the text, rather than just one slightly insinuating line, but I'm a sucker for misinterpretation/opaque-ness.

The last line is the important one.  What I was trying to coneptualise was an internal strife, where, on a bad day, I get all "this shit is pointless" etc. but even on a bad day, there is a little voice that says "so what".

Whereas the nihilism is a fleeting feeling of defeat, the idealism is constant.

So:

People can get used to anything.   <--defeat

but that doesn't mean they should  <--rebellious ideal


But the reactions have been helpful.  I'd especially like tips on how to make that idea more obvious without slapping people in the face with it.  though I suspect the answer may be:  spend more time writing this shit.
