There are actually very few rules in IRC as regards the OPS and H-OPS, now anyway.

Used to be everyone was OPped, as standard. Kicking and banning was not allowed then due to the hideous possibilities ( :lulz: ). Recently, MS made the decision to limit the amount of OPs (I can't remember why exactly). Fred and myself remained as OPs largely cause we've been in IRC for a long assed time, since the Chat Solutions days with Cyberus in fact. Eve is MS's 2nd in command or some shit, cause the Maddshark guys like her or something I dunno. And the Half-Ops were, I believe, supposed to rotate on a regular basis.

I don't ban anyone except for spamming (like actual spam, not setting off someone's name-bleep which I incidentally have turned off), or for persistent chat-fail (wade, daruko or StStephen style, over weeks or months). I'll also put in a 10-minute ban if one of the permanent lurkers (I hate those fuckers) is having connection problems but also has auto-join turned on. Sometimes I'll look at chat and the ONLY thing that has happened in the last half hour is John Blaze has left and rejoined 10 times.

I do kick people, occasionally for fatuous reasons, but only when I reckon that person will "get it". Like kicking Pixie a second time for the FacebookForHerCat thing. I try to at least make the kicking thing funny and to think about whether the kicked will see it as such.

The only other time I kick is when someone is doing it wade, daruko or StStephen style and someone requests I kick them to get chat going again.

Fuck coordinating when the OPs are on and how many, fuck making a bunch of rules for #Discord, and to fuck with banning someone from the channel for doing something that irritates you alone.

haha i get booted regularly for being a spag, and yes, I find it funny.

Payne and Fred only seriously boot when people come in being all homophobe or talking about rape porn. (2 recent examples) but I've never seen em ban anyone and I spent a lot of time on the channel. they only boot when the offendr is offending the room.

I figure that Requia would have been very annoyed by Rog's constant poking, but a boot for being a spag and a ban for being a spag is 2 different levels of action, the latter being unwarranted.

all this drama is just boring, anyway.

Some of the best shit we have around here really did come from drama of one kind or another. The problem is harnessing it and forming it into something usable.

I've tried in the past to create stuff from drama (The Gospel According to Payne, for example, and most of my WOMPs). And the BIP was built from the rubble of the great schism iirc.

That seems like a good policy

It's not really a policy. It's just how I personally and generally prefer to work. It doesn't always work this way, and I have no idea if the other ops have any similar kind of thing.

To me inconsistent moderation doesn't seem like a good thing. Not to say that mods in IRC shouldn't be able to operate within their own discretion but it would be nice to make sure that most mods are on at least the same page when it comes to what is and isn't considered a bannable/kickable offense

Looks like IRC mods maybe should be more selected not to ban for reasons of personal conflict.

He was deliberately harassing me, and flooding the channel in order to do it.  Payne is probably right that I should have just kicked first though.

Or you could have tried to actually sort the shit out without having to resort to kicking or banning at all, which is what I would have done.

The hell?

You've been here long enough.  You should know what to do.

You're a damn liar, and a stupid one at that.  Anyone looking at the logs can see I offered you a truce, and you felt the need to continue your bullshit.

You fucking idiot.   :lulz:

I offered her a deal:  She pretends I don't exist, and I reciprocate.  She decided to continue being an asshole.  She had no interest in sorting shit out.

I asked you to stop beeping my name.  Note that if you had *ignored* me, I'd have no real legitimate complaint.  But you responded by flooding the damned channel.

It was a flippant response to a genuine offer.

Please make an attempt at honesty.  So far you're batting zero (between this issue, and the "put down" you accused me of on the DND thread).
