TBA...stay tuned...need to do some research
Ha ha! It was a trick question! I don't have an online persona.

Oh, in that case I'll just pick something at random, like My Dying Bride's newest video, Bring Me Victory:

Boo! I was hoping for something more like this:

Have you heard any Cathedral?

Captain Clegg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKbzbWAWu_0

Or my favorite from them, Phantasmagoria, with one of the sickest, thickest, heaviest riffs ever created.  It would make Tony Iommi coo.

More to come....need to do some more research...and go have coffee...and some other things.

ITT:  I match you up with some metal that I have arbitrarily decided fits with your on-line persona.

For you newer cats, you might have to make a request because I probably won't remember you.  Also, yes I will be mostly using youtube links.  If you can't view it for some reason I'll try to find an alternate source for you.

Anyway, let's start shall we?

First off, for Cain:

Primordial - Empire Falls

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22ZlgpXfc44

Primordial are a band from Ireland, and their last album, "To The Nameless Dead" has a lot of political-type content that I think you would enjoy.  Or at least, some of the themes remind me of things you've talked about in the past.

Whoops, I knew I should have read this thread earlier.  I'll check them out in a bit, cheers.

Hmm, you're a tough one, but maybe this would be your speed:

Disharmonic Orchestra - Idiosyncracy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akOtdxfkOV4

Or maybe you'd like something more germain, or German, like Saksenland from Heidevolk:

I totally forgot about this band. The Carnival Bizarre was my favourite album for years, too - must download - thanks!

Hmm, how about some Armored Saint,

Dropping Like Flies:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJOdmYYDPic

Or, perhaps some Disincarnate - Immemorial Dream

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tUlafvZsSo

It's an instrumental, which unfortuantely I could only find attached to the preceding tune on the album, "Sea of Tears", the instrumental starts around 5:00, but I thought you might appreciate the guitar work on that one.

Mindfunk - Goddess

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn1xiSofSZY

I had a hard time with you, so this might be kind of random.

at first i was all "hell yeah" cuz, although i'd never heard of the band "mindfunk" i was like, well, like i said, "hell yeah" - then i did some research (youtubes is teh blocked at work) and i was like, "nineties? grunge? metal? FUNK??"  and i was like, "HELLS YEAH!"

but then i listened to them and i can't help wonder if it was some sort of veiled insult.

either it was, or i clearly need to post moar.

Fuck YES to the first one. That sort of music is just what the doctor ordered, in fact, its the sort of thing I've been listening to more and more these days (but completely instrumental). Awesome. The second one is death metal, really not into the vocals in death metal but I REALLY appreciate the instrumental work, with that fast pumping base drum in the back ground. The heavier and harder the better. And the guitar IS sweet. Again, much the sort of thing I've been listening to these days.

Thanks!

I'm sure I've linked you to this one before,

Cynic - Veil of Maya

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5VzbQQEQo0

and so as a bonus-

Souls at Zero - Never

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4egdPn7exE

gf just went to bed (in the same room), so I'll lsiten to these tomorrow. Thanks! :)

Cynic -- vocoder, check :) (or is it an autotune, I'm not sure, I'm kinda bored with autotunes)

Souls at Zero is kinda cool. Until he started singing ..

Regarding of vocoders in metal, I still like this one best http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kQE-4aOkiU
(other videos are more interesting to watch, but this one has better sound quality--at least on my crappy
laptop speakers)
