The sort of metal I've been listening to these days: http://www.metroidmetal.com/

I'm really addicted to that, metal covers of old metroid tunes.

Mindfunk - Goddess

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn1xiSofSZY

I had a hard time with you, so this might be kind of random.

at first i was all "hell yeah" cuz, although i'd never heard of the band "mindfunk" i was like, well, like i said, "hell yeah" - then i did some research (youtubes is teh blocked at work) and i was like, "nineties? grunge? metal? FUNK??"  and i was like, "HELLS YEAH!"

but then i listened to them and i can't help wonder if it was some sort of veiled insult.

either it was, or i clearly need to post moar.

No.  Actually, I posted that one for you becaues I did a little post-archaeology and saw that you posted something about Primus, so, I was trying to come up with another "funky" metal band.  Maybe I should've done Infectious Grooves instead.

I'm sure I've linked you to this one before,

Cynic - Veil of Maya

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5VzbQQEQo0

and so as a bonus-

Souls at Zero - Never

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4egdPn7exE

gf just went to bed (in the same room), so I'll lsiten to these tomorrow. Thanks! :)

Cynic -- vocoder, check :) (or is it an autotune, I'm not sure, I'm kinda bored with autotunes)

Souls at Zero is kinda cool. Until he started singing ..

Regarding of vocoders in metal, I still like this one best http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kQE-4aOkiU
(other videos are more interesting to watch, but this one has better sound quality--at least on my crappy
laptop speakers)

I believe it's a vocoder, at least, that's what they used on the album.

A little trivia about Souls at Zero, they were formally known as Wrathchild America.  Their music wasn't selling very well, so they decided to cut their hair, and change their name, which fooled no one.  Now, their drummer is the drummer for Godsmack.

Please don't anyone take any offense to any of the songs I posted.  None of them are intended to be swipes.  With some of you that I don't know as well I had to do some post archaeology and even then I may have been drawing blanks and essentially throwing spaghetti against the wall.

Hah.  Well I don't know what would be tougher than someone who posted about once a day for a year, but you seemed to do pretty well with me.  I don't know metal, but I was cool with both of the ones you linked.

no reasonable person could expect you to come up with ZOMG!!! that is the perfect song to describe me!!

all in all - thanks much for a thread.  i really like metal, but theres a lot of bands you mention that i've never heard of before.  and you also have given me a lot of, "oh yeah, i remember that band" moments.  i'd like to try a similar thread for bluegrass bands, but that's unpossible.  songs maybe, but not bands.

oh - and sorry to put you on the DEfensive.  the veiled insult thing is just my latent paranoia.

Dear RWHN,

Please assign me a metal band.

However, if it's Slave Raider I will hunt you down next time I'm in Maine.  :D
