When we were in my philosophy tutorial the other day, we were discussing death, and whether death is a harm to any meaning you try to achieve in your life. I pointed out that it can't be really, because, achieving meaning in your life is worthless in itself. Sure some people want  to do something great with their lives, but essentially it all comes down to trying to (and succeeding) in doing something meaningful just makes people happy. So there is no such thing as a menaingfulness harm (sorry if this is hard to follow, the discussion followed an hour long lecture, so I'm trying to get the idea of both across). Essentially, if spending your days fapping makes you as happy as curing cancer, good for you.

I can't remember where I was going with this. Something along the lines of looking for meaning is pointless if you don't enjoy it.

Disjointed but I get what you're saying. I've enjoyed my efforts, especially the reading I've done. Reading Illuminatus was a blast, and I can't wait to find a copy of Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas.

What I want to get away with? I want to get rid of the bullshit for one. All the crap that's been pushed onto my personality like a leech by authority, friends, whatever. I'd like to find out what aspects of my personality are actually mine and not something I was brainwashed into being. I mean, am I actually  polite, or am I a rude bastard whose been trained to act polite? Shave off all of that shit and take a look a pure undiluted me.

I think if we get rid of all of that shit, then there would be absolutely nothing left, because that's all we are.  It seems to me that every single aspect of our personalities is contingent.  I don't believe there is a core "me" underneath it all.

I don't know if I'm right or wrong, but I do think it's worthwhile to try to find out.  Whether it's true or false, or even if I never find out one way or the other, I'll learn a lot about myself along the way.

There's only one way to find out. Tear it all down. See what happens. When you rip it all to pieces and there's nothing of you left there's still something there and that'll quite happily do your head in for the next 20 years or so.
