Yeah, that whole "not taking technological advances into account" bit him.

"Billy, when I say that ethics is our number one priority and safety is also our number one priority, you should take that to mean exactly what I said. Also quality. That's our number one priority as well. Don't look at me that way, you're in the corporate world now and this is how it works."

Also, don't populations tend to stabilize due to other factors as well?  Wealth, education and access to contraception seem to be factors.  There was a UN paper which suggested, on the basis of some pretty good evidence, that the world population would likely become stable at around 10 billion, IIRC.

Reginald Ret

both true, but irrelevant.

mass starvation can't lead to extinction.
the population will shrink,
there will be more food/human,
the population will stop shrinking.

Outside the world of pure-math simulation, the chaos brought from the mass starvation of monkeys is more likely to generate mass methods of screwing up the chances of any future recovery. E.g. Did you ever read the incredibly complex and coordinated processes required to gradually bring up only part of the power grid following the 2003 blackout? Once the power grid goes down and you lose the ability to communicate and synchronise actions across distances, the ability to bring it back online - especially considering the disruption caused by prolonged blackout - rapidly becomes less likely.

But that's just one possibility - I don't think we're in any danger of running out of creative ways to make ourselves extinct. Any excuse.

Reginald Ret

that would be a stressful situation.
when monkey's get stressed they seek distraction.
if the power is out sex will have to take the place of television.
