Obviously, we thrive off emergencies.  When shit needs to get busy, in a hurry, or the horribly, it trips some kind of mad addictive drive.  It keeps us running on 6 hours of sleep, animated by horrible will.  It has us plowing down 4000 calories a day, yet still loosing weight.
The rest of the time just doesn't seem interesting.  Yes, there are problems, there's stuff going wrong, but it's glossed over by the prosaic cushion of things going the way things are supposed to.
