However, "awareness" unspoken or not, was a pivotal aspect of BIP.  Becoming aware of your bars, your cell, the prison, the available paths, etc., etc.

Fair, but I always considered the BIP to be a user guide for the self rather than a goad to change society. The problem I see with "awareness" is that it identifies symptoms and not problems.

To take the Kony thing, it singled out this one guy like he was the root of the evil of child soldiers. He's not. The evils of being human are very complex. If they weren't we'd all be living in a utopian society right now. We've had writing for about 6000 years and urban settlement for almost 10,000. If awareness were sufficient, we'd have colonists on exoplanets a long time ago.

Yes, but awareness is a micro and macro-level tool.

Are you REALLY not discerning the difference between the way the word is used in the complaint and the way you just used it?

Because it appears, in context, functionally, that you just used a classic troll move.

You might not realize it. Maybe. But it was, like, blatantly explained upthread.

I have been thinking about the BIP in terms of awareness of others perspectives and experiences recently and have found it pretty useful to get my head around intersectionality... That's a post for another time tho.

You know how trolls pretend to not get things to wind people up? Dipshits genuinely don't get things. It still winds people up.

The author of the OP also expressed that they hated the word in the context I used it, so, your complaint, I'm afraid, is moot.

I've usually heard it in a context of 'managed to lie my way out of trouble'.

'I blagged my way past the police officer' or 'he tried to blag his way out of being fired, but it didn't work', that sort of thing. I've never heard it used in another context, but I'm mostly london-based, I can believe it means other things up'tut north or in the wilds of the south.

Blag used to mean "get into something for free" down here. Like getting free stuff or onto a guest list for a club or gig or summat..

We used to call that swag, in the US.

"Blag".

English verb, "to rip off, rob, or steal".

Yeah, typically used online because "repost" or "share" isn't pretentious enough.

Just wanted to make sure we were on the same page.

Yeah, it is annoying as shit, and scattered all over TDS2013 like Goddamn pigeon poop.

It's like a toddler with a new word. Adorable.

NEWSFLASH: It's totally OK for people to hate things other people like. It doesn't make them wrong, it just makes them different.

I have still never read the whole of the BIP. Parts of it, but not the whole thing. It isn't important to me. That's not to make light of the people who put hard work into it or for whom it IS important.

Furthermore, someone getting a personal chill of loathing when a word is used in a certain context does not invalidate all uses of that word.

Seriously, I mean, come the fuck on.

"Organic".  The most ill-used, over-hyped word in the entire history of the English language.

Yes, your veggies are organic.  If they weren't you'd BREAK YOUR FUCKING TEETH.  And now EVERYTHING is "organic".  Why?  Because it fucking SELLS SHIT.  The SAME shit as everyone ELSE is selling, but it's ORGANIC.

It occurs to me that *I* am organic.  And you should all buy me.

At least it kind of makes sense when it's related to food, because it refers to a specific process of using all-carbon-based nutrient sources and no antibiotics or hormones to grow the food, which in turn forces farmers to grow in more sanitary conditions. In Oregon it's illegal to label a food product "organic" unless it meets specific guidelines. It makes NO SENSE AT ALL related to lube, I'm like, :? what is it? Where does it come from? What does it mean? I went to some websites and found no answers there.
