Pick one.  Succumb to the emotional turmoil, and slide off the edge into compulsive expression of internal conflict.  It'll feel GOOD.

The others, they might not like you so much after that. Not that they should judge, they weren't inside YOUR head, experiencing what YOU did.  They only saw, heard, or felt the horrible fire blowing out of your head.  Your eyes blowing out like the windows of a 3 decker house, spewing upward tongues of flame into a cold night.  The smoke billowing out of your ears in horrible streams, elevating a malignant signal to the heavens that your head had TOO MUCH.  They never saw the spark, of course.

To their view, you've become scary.  You've exemplified extreme, turbulent emotion.  They can't handle that.  Some maybe have never FELT like that, some maybe shamed away by their own inability to do anything about it, to help you STOP.  It's easy to stigmatize, to exclude.  So they do.  Like you have before without even realizing it.  They couldn't cut it, they couldn't deal, they couldn't bottle, box it away, or otherwise CONTAIN.

The valves have only have certain capacity.  The roof can only hold so much snow.  Human contact of any kind has an LD 50.  The madness buffers the brain; the expiration point buffers those who can't cut it.  Lucky fuckers.

Anyone ever think about how Richter inhabits the same reality as you and just scream and scream and scream, but in a good way?   :lulz:

If you're doing it right, all three sound the same.

If you're doing it right, all three ARE the same.

And what these fools don't realize is that, like a boiler relief valve, these ventings are relieving excess pressure, not signaling an explosion.  A whistling noise and a plume are a GOOD sign...sure, pressure may be high, but it's venting.  The WORST thing you can do is to lash down the safety valve and pretend that nothing's wrong.  Sure, you get more pressure, and thus more productivity, for a while...but eventually, the pressure vessel fails.

Have you ever seen the aftermath of a boiler failure?  It's not pretty.  A 200HP boiler goes off with roughly the force of a standard USAF 500 pound bomb.  It blows straight through brick walls, and any containment you thought you had simply becomes shrapnel.  People in the area are blown to bloody rags, identifiable only by their dental records.

In the scenario Richter describes, the boiler drinks a bottle of Jack and gobbles down a few dozen barbituates, or perhaps shows up for work with a gym bag full of pistols and a big smile, or maybe just turns the gas on after his family is asleep, and goes to bed.  We've all seen that kind of failure.

That's why we have relief valves.  That's why I laugh the way I do, even if it makes Filthy Assistant shrink down behind his desk, eyes on the phone.  But he's a maintenance man, and he should know better.

It's how I justified the cackling fit after a 45 min. call working to fix a problem salesfolk made.

I still like my laughs to sound like laughs, crying and screaming can sound the same, however.

If you're doing it right, all three are different, but you can choose between them at will.

I think if you're doing it right, you don't worry about whether they sound the same or not, you just give in when the urge takes you and have at.  The trick is whether or not you give a shit...that gets harder as I get older.  I like the tone of the OP to just "go for it" and damn the consequences already!
