Revisiting this essay, I've tried this method. As several people in this thread indicated, humans are best at doing actions in 2-3 hour stretches of time, and it takes minutes to warm up to any activity. So, it's impossible to do a little of /everything/ every day.

On the other hand, being spontaneous helps.

after the election, Barack Obama said something which stuck with me. Somebody had asked him how he deals with all the information he has to process all the time.

He said that it's important to put some time aside EVERY DAY in which you're not doing anything but thinking.
He'd isolate himself, turn off his blackberry, and just focus on what to do next.
